Sunrise’s Sam Mac reveals why he sat in economy on Channel 7 trip

When Sam Mac was stuck in economy while his Sunrise co-stars sat pretty at the pointy end of the plane, fans were left asking why. Here’s the reason.

After initially suspecting something more nefarious, Confidential has learnt there was a very good reason Sam Mac sat in economy while fellow Sunrise presenters were up the pointy end of the plane.

A reader, who happened to be on the flight from Sydney to Brisbane on Thursday, contacted this column to ask if there was more to the story.

Alas, no, weatherman Mac is particular about where he likes to sit.

Seat 6C is always his first choice and has been something he has long made a joke about on his social media.

“I consider seat 6C the superior seat over 1A,” he told Confidential, claiming 6C sounds like sexy. “Not only does it keep you in touch with the pulse of Australia, it also lends itself to highly intellectual musical montage content for my Instagram — ‘I’m 6C and I know it’ and ‘I’m bringing 6C back’. I would consider being placed in 1A to be a downgrade.”

The show’s cast and crew were flying to Queensland for an outside broadcast that took place on Friday.

Mac, whose full last name is McMillan, regularly shares comedic content on his social media.

ABC journalist Leigh Sales once noted in a podcast that Mac’s Instagram is a “community service” for making people laugh.

His content includes the quirky routine of walking his pet cat on a lead and dressing up for a gig as Tone Deaf Leopard with TV vet Chris Brown. There’s also an image of his tattoo of pet cat Coco with a Gold Logie, a reference to him being nominated for the top honour in 2019.
