Some of Australia’s – and Hollywood’s – brightest stars turned heads at the 13th annual GQ Men of the Year Awards last night.

The A-list guests included ‘it’ girl Zendaya, who was honoured as GQ’s Woman of the Year, as well as her Euphoria co-star, Australian actor Jacob Elordi, and a string of guests including Baz Luhrmann and Sophie Monk.

Spider-Man: Homecoming actor Zendaya was joined by former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Dylan Alcott, Victroia’s Secret model Georgia Fowler, awards host Joel Creasey, top model Alton Mason, AFL legend Adam Goodes and singer Jessica Mauboy at Sydney’s Hyatt Regency.

“Woman of the Year – that’s kinda crazy considering I’m 23-years-old and I’m just trying to figure out how to become a young woman myself,” Zendaya told the star-studded audience.

“It’s a huge honour. I feel like … sometimes, you forget to just kind of stop and take in moments like this.

“Sometimes I work so much, I forget about life,” Zendaya added, as she accepted the honour.

It has been a huge year for Zendaya, 23, who stars as a drug addicted teen on the Drake-produced US TV drama Euphoria.

She also released a clothing collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, dubbed TOMMY X ZENDAYA.

Also at the awards was Zendaya’s Euphoria co-star, Australian actor Elordi, with the pair recently being the subject of relationship speculation.

Instagram model Mimi Elashiry turned heads with a revealing outfit on the black carpet, sporting a metallic leotard covered only by see-through chain link that seemed more suited to the ARIAs.

Elashiry also matched with another social media star, Sarah Ellen, who wore a similar – albeit less revealing – outfit.

Red carpet sources claimed nobody knew where to look as Elashiry turned around, revealing her bottom to photographers, with the outfit covering about as much as a swimsuit.

Other notable faces on the black carpet were Camilla Freeman-Topper, of fashion label camilla and marc, who sported an on-trend sleeved blazer dress, paired with peep-toed boots.

It was a trend also seen on singer Mauboy, who wore a blazer over a pair of bike shorts.

Fresh from her ARIAs wind machine moment, Monk shared a cheeky drink with host Creasey.

“We’re having a shot, babe, like schoolies,” Creasey joked as he ordered two shots of vodka.

“I can see the camera guy winding us up, so I’ve gotta do this quick,” Monk chimed in, before downing the drink.

Goodes, the subject of the documentary The Australian Dream about the nation’s inherited racism, brushed off his icon status.

“Definitely not an icon, a role model yes, I’m happy with that title,” Goodes told News Corp at the GQ party.

“Now as a father I’m happy I can share my ideas and my journey a bit more and hopefully that inspires (his kids and younger people) or helps them make similar choices.”

The former Swans player said he was thrilled by the “incredible support” the documentary had received.

“It’s now played in schools, hopefully it’s something that will keep building momentum and we will keep having more conversations about it.”

Meantime, Creasey said he was “looking forward to drinking the bar dry” after his opening monologue.

He joked: “Hopefully I’ll pash a Wiggle … are the Wiggles here?”.

Director Baz Lurhmann – who is shooting his latest project, a movie about Elvis, in Queensland – was also honoured.

“I’m gathering all of the great artists together and we’re building Graceland in Queensland,” Lurhmann told News Corp.

“It’s more like taking his life through the eyes of Colonel Tom Parker, who is played by Tom Hanks, and using it to throw up issues that are meaningful to us now.”

Lurhmann noted that he was again working with his previous collaborators from Strictly Ballroom for the Elvis project.

Speaking ahead of the awards, GQ Australia editor Michael Christian reflected on Zendaya’s huge 2019.

“I don’t think anyone has had a bigger year than Zendaya,” GQ Australia editor Michael Christensen told News Corp.

“There has been a coming of age with her. She starred in Spider-Man: Far From Home and has also been the star of the show Euphoria.

“This year is her year so it is amazing to have someone like her as our Woman of the Year. She is not just an actor, she is keen to make sure she has a huge following and that she is a role model to the younger generations.”
