Abbie Chatfield has hit back at speculation she was fired from her lucrative radio gig.

The Hot Nights With Abbie Chatfield host shocked fans yesterday when she announced she was leaving the program to focus on other endeavours, and that her broadcast last night would be her last.

However, some were quick to speculate whether Chatfield did not quit on her own accord, but was rather fired from the job, which she’d held for 18 months.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to confront the claims in a video aimed at “anyone who can’t comprehend I actually quit of my own volition”.

“I don’t want to do radio anymore. I literally have a desk still. I still work in the [Hit Network] building,” she said, adding that she will continue to do projects with the network, such as her It’s A Lot podcast and Australian Made, a segment that spotlights local acts.

“So it definitely wasn’t that I was fired. It’s that I didn’t want to do radio any more,” she said.

“But you go and be a little gremlin somewhere else, and be like, ‘She definitely got fired!’ If I got fired, would I get a footbath on air? Riddle me that.”

Indeed, on her last ever broadcast, Chatfield was treated to a footbath by her colleagues and good friends Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye, who host the popular Hobart breakfast show, Jimmy & Nath. Chatfield’s team also farewelled her with a “retirement party”.

The star shared news of her exit on Thursday afternoon, telling her followers that made the call “a little last minute” following a recent holiday.

“I’m really happy with my decision and super proud of myself for letting this role go,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I simply need to put my energy into projects that bring me joy and that energise me, rather than draining me.”

Chatfield said she was looking forward to spending more time with friends and family, as well as focusing on other hosting opportunities. She most recently hosted the BINGE dating series, FBoy Island Australia.

“It’s also time to give someone else a go who would enjoy and appreciate the opportunity more than myself,” she added.

“I have so much on, and daily radio takes up so much time. I simply wasn’t enjoying myself day to day in that environment. This was my decision entirely, and I’m so glad I made it.”

The recent holiday Chatfield was referring to took place last month when she checked into a health retreat in Thailand after feeling drained from all her work commitments.

“I came to this retreat because I’ve been absolutely depleted and burnt out by the start of this year for a number of reasons,” she said on Instagram at the time.

“I think I’ve realised that my priorities need to shift a bit, to be honest, I’ve taken on so many jobs and so many roles.”

Chatfield said she has come to the realisation she has a “genuine addiction to work” and doesn’t want to live that way anymore.

“I just had a realisation you know, that honestly, that all I’ve done is work for the past couple of years. I have almost no social life anymore,” she said.
