Why Brownlow blokes shouldn’t experiment on the red carpet: Josh Gibson
After Jason Johannisen turned heads for all the wrong reasons at last year’s Brownlow, Josh Gibson has revealed the one fashion faux pas that AFL stars should avoid on the red carpet.

Former footy champion Josh Gibson says AFL stars need to leave adventurous fashion statements to the women on Brownlow Medal night.
Gibson, a three-time premiership player at Hawthorn, is co-hosting Channel 7’s Brownlow red carpet coverage alongside his former teammate Campbell Brown, television presenter Abbey Gelmi, and fashion identity Nadia Bartel.
“The Brownlow, for a guy, is about keeping it traditional,” Gibson told Confidential.
“It’s black tie. That’s all you have to do. You can’t be too adventurous. Leave that to your partners.”
He added: “I feel, when you take away the actual award side of it, the red carpet is all about the women. The guys need to take a step back.
“I know you’re the footballer, but you need to take two steps behind, and let her walk out in front.”
However, Gibson won’t hold back on the couture questions.
“I want to know how long it takes the guys to get groomed. It should be fast for them,” Gibson said.
“If a guy has got a man bun, I’ll want to know how it’s taken to put together. Phil Davis, I’ll probably go after him to see how he’s executed the hair.

“But, really, Browny and I are just the sidekicks.”
Brown suddenly interjected: “Don’t underestimate my fashion knowledge, mate: Vera Wang, Oscar De La Renta, Alice McCall …”
Gibson laughed: “What you need to realise is, Browny is Blundstones, Wranglers and Bonds singlet.
“Don’t be fooled. He also just listed all female labels, and not one male brand.”
Channel 7’s Brownlow red carpet coverage happens from 7.30pm on September 23.
