Legendary radio broadcaster John Laws remains in hospital this weekend after taking ill with a mystery infection a week ago.
A spokeswoman for the 85-year-old said Laws was expected to be discharged next week following a standard procedure and was “on the mend”.
The health matter was “nothing sinister” which, given Laws’s history of illness — he suffered polio twice in his younger days and contracted a respiratory illness in Italy in 2016, prompting two airlines to decline his request for passage home and leading to him being forced to lay up in Rome hotel for another week — is excellent news.
That said, it might be a little while before Laws is back at his regular table at Otto Ristorante on Woolloomooloo’s Finger Wharf thirstily knocking back his beloved bourbon.
Filling in for Laws on the air at 2SM last week was Marcus Paul.
Laws was last photographed a month ago when Kyle Sandilands dropped in on his radio show, the radio veteran appearing upright and in fine spirits.
