Metal lords Metallica are finally returning to Australia for their first tour in more than a decade.
But their legion of loyal fans here still have to wait a year before James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo rule our stadiums with their M72 World Tour shows.
The enduring hard rockers will open the Australian leg of the tour at Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 1, Adelaide Oval on November 5, Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on November 8, Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on November 12 and Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 15.
The concerts will also feature big name support acts Evanescence and Suicidal Tendencies.
Metallica last performed in Australia in 2013 as headliners of the now defunct Soundwave festival.
They were booked to tour here in 2019 but were forced to cancel that visit when frontman Hetfield sought treatment for addiction and couldn’t reschedule due to Australia’s closed borders during the pandemic.
The band reassured their Aussie fans last month they would be playing here when they unveiled another leg of the M72 World Tour for North America.
“Finally, North America is not our only stop in 2025, as this year, we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away!!!” they posted on their social media channels.
The tour, which kicked off in Europe on April last year, is in support of their 11th studio record 72 Seasons which claimed the No.1 spot on all of the charts when it was released as the band returned to the road.
Metallica is the latest big name live act to announce their Australian shows a year out from striking a note or setting off the pyros.
Oasis put their November 2025 shows on sale this month, with tickets still avalable for their fifth and final concert here on November 4 at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
Sir Cliff Richard has also been absent from Australian stages for 12 years and recently announced his Can’t Stop Me Now tour which opens on the same night as Metallica in Perth.
