HSC results 2021: Top performing Band 6 NSW students revealed

The full list of the hardworking students of 2021 who earnt “distinguished achiever” status in the HSC can now be revealed.
That includes the likes of Ravenswood HSC student from the Class of 2021 Rachel Halliday-Shand who achieved a perfect score of 99.95.
Not only did she get over 90 per cent, she also came first in the English Advanced course.
She scored 90 per cent or above in English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Legal Studies, Mathematics Standard 2, Modern History and French Continuers.
Her secret to success in English was practising on past papers but just said her enjoyment of the subject helped get her through.
“The trickiest question in the paper was a compulsory one on the poetry of John Dunne – they asked about a specific poem (they had to study 8) rather than providing options,” she said.
“I was lucky in that I had studied that them all so I did not get caught out. I also spent a lot of time discussing the texts with peers, which enabled me to question my point of view and refine my perspectives.”
On top of her student, she was a Community and Wellbeing prefect at her school and helping charities.
She now aims to study Arts Law.
“I would like to either work with Indigenous youth to address the issue of disproportionately high incarceration rates or in European diplomacy, focusing on France as I also loved studying French,” she said.
