HSC results 2021: Full list of NSW schools revealed

Some parents spend hundreds of thousands in fees for a good ATAR but turns out you only have to drop about $2000 a year at this high performing school.

NSW students defy lockdown with HSC glory

A school in Western Sydney which charges just $2070 a year and was severely affected by strict Covid lockdowns has triumphed over blue blood eastern suburbs and North Shore private schools to beat them in the HSC.

Auburn’s Al-Faisal College went from 54th spot on the HSC league tables last year to 26 this year. The school also had 232 distinguished achievers.

That means it beat elite private schools charging in excess of $30,000 a year including Scots College in Bellevue Hill which slipped from 63 to 81 this year.

By comparison, Al-Faisal in Auburn only charged parents $2,070 a year compared to more than $38,000 a year at Cranbrook School in Bellevue Hill which came in lower down the rankings at 35th.

The school had a controversial system whereby students were given $500 for every single subject they got above 90 per cent in the HSC following negative media attention.

Despite scrapping that system, the school managed to get one student with the “perfect” Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank of 99.95.

Other schools to improve despite the harsh lockdowns include Auburn’s Alpha Omega College which went from a rank of 55 last year to 31 this year while Al-Noori in Greenacre maintained a solid ranking of 32nd in the state.

When it came to non-selective public schools, Willoughby Girls was at the top of the list with a rank of 68, followed by Northern Beaches Secondary College Balgowlah Boys Campus which was 75.

James Ruse Agricultural High School took out the top spot in the HSC league tables for the 26th year in a row.

The prestigious school was followed by other government selective schools including North Sydney Boys and Baulkham Hills High.

Of the top 10 schools, only two were private schools including the $36,000 a year Reddam House and $38,000 a year Sydney Grammar which is selective.
