The all-round students who managed to get a top band in 10 units of study, or about five subjects have been revealed.
Schools including Meriden in Strathfield dominated the list, with 30 students from that school achieving the all rounder award.
That also included Al-Faisal student Sara Karem, 17, who got an elusive perfect ATAR score of 99.95 this morning.
Eight of her classmates were also named as all-rounders on the list.
She could not believe it that she had achieved the perfect score.
“It was very surreal, it felt like a dream,” she said.
She said the email actually went to her spam box and it took her a while to find it.
“I wasn’t notified, but at 9am I check my spam because after 9am everyone was sending me messages saying they had gotten theirs.”
She thanks her school and Matrix education which she believed gave her the edge.
Her marks were as follows out of a possible 100:
Chemistry 97
Biology 96
Extension 1 maths 100
Extension 2 maths 99
English Advanced 96
She now wants to study dentistry at the University of Sydney but must pass an interview to get in first. She will go out to dinner tonight to celebrate with her parents.
“My school was very supportive, constantly keeping in contact with us, being in lockdown was an interesting position but at the end of the day having teachers and tutors supporting me the whole time made it so much easier.”
Unfortunately a scheme whereby students at Al-Faisal students were given $500 for every subject they achieve over 90 per cent in had now been cancelled.
“They wanted to avoid any negative associations with the school,” she said.
“You don’t do it for the money.”
Matrix Education chief Ashley Kim said that although the cohort was challenged last year, the students were able to overcome the difficulties with the right support.
“It’s no secret that the students had their learning interrupted with lockdowns and remote learning – we made sure to provide quality teaching and support online,” she said.
