FORMER prime minister Tony Abbott has faith the Coalition can win the next election despite “self-inflicted wounds”.
In an interview with Sharri Markson on The Daily Telegraph’s Miranda Live online radio show, Mr Abbott said there was “no doubt” the Turnbull government could take out the Labor Party but stressed it “won’t be easy”.
LISTEN TO THE FULL INTERVIEW:
“There’s absolutely no doubt that we can win the next election ... it certainly won’t be easy because we are seeking a third term, defending a one-seat majority after a lot of disappointment and self-inflicted wounds but yes, we can win the next election,” Mr Abbott said.
However, Mr Abbott said victory could only be achieved if the race was more than a “personality contest”.
“We can only win it if it’s not just a personality contest but it’s also a contest of policy and ideas and that’s why these things are important.”
