Miranda Live: Miranda Devine and JMO talk gay marriage
SHE’S was one of the biggest voices of the “no” campaign — so when Miranda Devine interviewed SydCon’s JMo on Miranda Live the conversation took an unexpected tangent towards same-sex marriage. See what happens next.
FROM baboons breaking into Julia Morris’ “I’m a Celeb ...” abode to THAT interview with boxer Anthony Mundine, it was all on show as Jonathon Moran sat down with Miranda Devine.
But the conversation soon turned to the very raw topic of where Australia stands in the wake of the Same-Sex Marriage debate as “JMo” opened up on Miranda Live.
LISTEN TO THE FULL INTERVIEW:
Fresh from the South African jungle, Moran was ready to dish all the goss about the hit Australian reality TV show I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of here.
“This is the dust bowl, this is the jungle ... it’s not like they’re living in the Blue Mountains,” he told Devine.
During his time in the jungle with the celebs (Moran lived in a nearby chalet, but has expressed a desire to be an actual contestant — “I’d love to go in there and lose so much weight!” in the jungle) the Daily Telegraph entertainment reporter interviewed boxer Anthony Mundine, with the prominent convert to Islam expressing hard line views on homosexuality.
“It was one of the hardest interviews I’ve ever done,” he told Devine.
“He told me as a gay man — I’m gay, he’s not — that gay people, his solution, would either be capital punishment or the death penalty.”
From there, the conversation quickly turned to the recent marriage equality postal vote — Devine, a prominent “no” voter and Moran stood on opposite sides during the debate but expressed a desire for both sides to actually listen to each other before slinging barbs.

“From when I came out at 17, discrimination has been part of my everyday life — I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking down the street holding — if I had a boyfriend, it’s Valentine’s Day ... sucks to be me — my boyfriend’s hand,” Moran told Devine. “As Anthony Mundine proves, there’s still a lot of hate levelled at gay people.”
