‘You are a man’: Woman charged after allegedly grabbing transitioning husband’s penis

A woman has faced a Brisbane court charged with sexual assault after she allegedly grabbed her transitioning husband’s genitalia, tried to pull his wedding band off his finger and hit him.

A woman has been charged with sexual assault after she allegedly grabbed her transitioning husband’s genitalia.

A woman who allegedly grabbed her transitioning husband’s genitalia and said “you are a man” has faced court on a sexual assault charge.

The woman, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday and is also charged with two counts each of serious assault person over 60 and contravention of a domestic violence order.

Police will allege the woman verbally abused her husband, who is transitioning to a woman, calling him offensive names.

She tried to pull his wedding band off his finger and grabbed his face, it’s alleged.

Police will allege that a few days later she cupped her husband’s genitalia and said “you are a man, this is a d***”.

After an argument she hit him in the stomach, police will allege.

Police will allege that in an interview with officers she admitted to calling him names and could not cope with him transitioning.

Her Legal Aid lawyer Nick Hanly made an application for bail saying his client had no criminal history

“If she would plead guilty to these offences as they presently stand it’s highly unlikely she would receive any terms of imprisonment,” he said.

“She says that it’s been an emotional roller coaster over the last 18 months after her husband advised her that he wishes to transition to a female.”

He said the woman was remorseful.

Magistrate Andrew Hackett said a jail sentence would be “almost impossible” in the event the woman pleaded guilty.

He granted bail with a condition she not contact or go to the husband’s address.

The matter was adjourned to February 13.
