Three teens critical after Brightview crash

A teenage boy is still fighting for life following a fiery crash in the Lockyer Valley on Tuesday morning.

Cassie Battisson, 17, and Tyson Brehm, 15, along with another unnamed teen understood to be Cassie’s 15-year-old brother, were travelling in a Mazda CX-9 about 6am at Brightview.

The car left the road at the intersection of Brightview District and Brightview roads, while attempting to overtake a truck, crashing into a power pole and catching fire.

A spokeswoman from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital confirmed 15-year-old Tyson Brehm remains in a critical but stable condition.

The 15-year-old boy, believed to be Cassie’s brother, has been discharged from the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman from the Princess Alexandra Hospital said Cassie Battisson is currently in a stable condition but is not expected to leave hospital before the weekend.

A source close to the family confirmed that on Wednesday morning Cassie opened her eyes in hospital following a lifesaving surgery.

“She (Cassie) had surgery … she had a broken ankle and some bleeding in her stomach so they had to drain it and find the cause of bleed,” they said.

“It is amazing news … we are all so glad she has woken up in stable condition.”

One of Cassie’s sisters shared a tribute to her sister in a now deleted social media post.

“My heart is out there for you (you’re) a really strong girl I know you will be strong enough to make it out,” she wrote.

“I love you.

“Your nephews and nieces need you.

“Your whole family does.”

Off-duty nurse Angeline Martin, who attended the scene, said she consoled Cassie as she called out for her brother in the aftermath of the crash.

Police investigations are ongoing. No charges have been laid.
