A candlelight vigil has been held for a mother of two allegedly murdered by her husband and brother-in-law southwest of Brisbane.

Muzhda Habibi, 23, was found unresponsive in her Springfield Lakes home on May 19.

Ms Habibi’s 26-year-old husband Masihullah Habibi and his 28-year-old brother Khalilullah Habibi, both from Springfield Lakes, have each been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence).

About 50 mourners gathered for a candlelight vigil in her memory on Sunday evening.

Grief hung heavy in the air, with mourners comforting each other as they stood side by side as darkness fell over Springfield Lakes Park, chosen for the vigil as it was where Ms Habibi would take her children.

A steady stream of community members including women’s advocate Rita Anwari, Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding and councillor Pye Augustine addressed the group.

Ms Anwari gave a heartfelt plea to put an end to domestic violence and spoke in memory of Ms Habibi.

“The beautiful woman, a beautiful mother who we lost here today,” she told the crowd.

“For her two beautiful children, who was taken very... unjustly.

“Now her two children and motherless... words cannot capture our feelings.”

The two accused appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court on May 20.

The matter was listed for committal mention on June 25, with neither required to appear on that occasion. The men remain in custody and have not entered any pleas.

Ms Harding noted the alleged murder had happened during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“This not good enough. We need to we need to do more,” she said.

“Imagine moving to another country full of hope and opportunity and to have this happen.”

Federal Speaker and local MP Milton Dick was also in attendance, seen lighting a candle alongside other local government representatives at the conclusion of the vigil
