Two men charged with murder after a 23-year-old mother was found dead at a home west of Brisbane on Friday have been identified.
Her 26-year-old husband and his 28-year-old brother, both from Springfield Lakes, have been charged with one count each of murder (domestic violence offence).
Lawyers for Khalillulah and Masihullah Habibi appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday morning, though neither defendant was required to appear.
The matter was listed for committal mention on June 25, with neither required to appear on that occasion. The men remain in custody.
Emergency services rushed to a residence on Ash Ave at Springfield Lakes about 8pm after reports a woman had collapsed.
Officers found the woman unconscious and not breathing.
Paramedics and police tried to save the woman’s life but she was declared dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Michael Manago said he couldn’t comment on how she died, whether any weapons were located and if drugs were involved.
“ A post mortem examination will be conducted to inspect the deceased and to identify exactly what has happened to her, but I can’t comment at this stage as to any injuries that she may have sustained,” he said.
Det Insp Manago said the family had only been living at the residence for a short period of time and were from Afghanistan.
He said at the moment police were working out if they had any other family in Australia.
“At the moment, we’re trying to establish, through consulate and other lines of inquiry, a next kin to contact in regards to what’s happened.”
Det Insp Manago said who called the police was forming part of their investigation. He confirmed a Mercedes Benz was also seized.
Det Insp Manago said it was a tragic incident especially because there were children involved.
“They (the children) are currently being cared for off site, and their welfare is paramount to everyone conducting this investigation,” he said.
“I would like to say this is a terribly tragic event, especially given young children being in the home, and our thoughts go out to the victims, family and friends who are naturally impacted by what’s transpired.”
“As you can imagine, any scene such as that, is quite a chaotic scene. So I think for the first responders that attended, it may have been somewhat confronting for them,” he said.
“However, as I’ve outlined earlier, they acted professionally, and I just want to acknowledge the great work they did in attempting to revive that young victim.”
Neighbours have told The Courier-Mail they didn’t hear anything until the police arrived last night.
“I’m shocked, because this is one of the quiet places in Springfield Lakes, and we don’t have this type of incident happening in our community,” Raj Lundo said.
“The police, they were around here in our street.”
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are ongoing.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
