Police have successfully appealed the bail of a 17-year-old charged over an alleged armed carjacking in Bulimba earlier this month after he took to social media mocking QPS following his release.
The 17-year-old was bailed on June 6 and released within 24 hours. But on Friday, June 23, a decision was handed down and his bail was revoked.
The teen was taken into custody immediately and will appear at Children’s Court at a later date.
Angelo Justus was reversing out of his driveway on Sunday, June 4, when police allege that two people approached his car holding an axe and shovel wearing balaclavas.
Police allege the two teens threatened Mr Justus and stole his Audi A3.
Following the incident, one of the teens was arrested and taken into custody but was released on bail immediately. He then took to social media to gloat, saying police had no evidence and his arrest that was recorded was “a cute video”.
Mr Justus told The Courier-Mail at the time that watching the video caused him more anxiety and angst than the day the incident happened.
But now that the teen is in custody on remand, he feels better.
“It’s a huge relief that he is not out in the community [on bail],” Mr Justus said.
“I think we have almost gotten over the incident. But everything surrounding it, the bail and no consequence for [alleged] violent crime offenders were the things bothering us the most.
“Thinking this could potentially happen again was the most worrying bit.”
Since the incident, the Bulimba, Norman Park and Hawthorne Communities have met together to discuss cameras and security patrols in the area.
“The things we can do are very limited. Where things need to happen is with authorities and law,” he said.
“As a community we are teaching them there is no consequence by letting them out without any consequences. The bigger picture of safe community, right to the basic human right to feel safe in your house is completely lost by trying to protect the youth.

He was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of armed robbery, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, trespass, possess dangerous drug.
