An Ipswich man has faced court after he allegedly stabbed another man west of Brisbane.

Kris William Griffiths, 46, was charged with one count of acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable.

The Goodna man applied for bail on Monday in Ipswich Magistrates Court.

The court heard the incident happened in the defendant’s house on Caldwell St on August 3.

A 42-year-old One Mile man suffered significant neck and leg injuries and was transported to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

Police prosecutor sergeant Brad Dick said the victim admitted that he went to the defendant’s place to purchase cannabis.

He said the victim attended the place with his hands in his pockets and appeared calm.

But he also said the case tied with a wider issue of alleged self defence.

The court heard that Mr Griffiths also suffered some injuries in the incident, and he received treatment in the hospital.

The defendant attended the court via video link with one of his forearms and hands appeared to be wrapped in bandages.

Magistrate Dennis Kinsella said the prosecution narratives were from the victim and some further witnesses who arrived at the residence subsequent to the conflict.

“The applicant was engaged in some verbal altercation with the complainant so he was brandishing a knife,” he said.

“It is said by the complainant that he threw a punch.”

Mr Kinsella said the defendant seemed to stab him in the neck area.

“The injury is not of great significance. Nevertheless, the location is concerning,” he said.

“They are said to have wrestled in the course of which the complainant is said to have sustained a further step back to the knee.

“Nevertheless, I do note in that space that the applicant’s version is self defence.”

He described the incident as “an act of serious violence”.

“(This) has occurred in the context of criminal behaviour, such as drug use or drug dealing,” he said.

“That is of course the context in which the court must consider the matter in that the court must take care of the prosecution case at its highest.”

He said the defendant had an unacceptable risk of committing an offence and thus refused his bail application.

The matter was adjourned to August 30.

Mr Griffiths was remanded in custody and was requested to appear via video.
