Stuart Wallace-Cuneo died after an alleged stabbing in Hervey Bay

The identity of a man allegedly killed by a teen in a stabbing in Hervey Bay has been revealed.

Acting Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield spoke to media at Hervey Bay Police Station on Sunday in the wake of the incident.

A man allegedly killed in a stabbing incident at a caravan park in Hervey Bay has been identified.

Stuart Wallace-Cuneo died after being rushed to Hervey Bay Hospital with a single stab wound to the back, police allege.

A 14-year-old girl was taken into custody in the wake of the incident and charged with murder.

Speaking to media at Hervey Bay Police Station on Sunday, Acting Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

Emergency services were called to the Big4 Hervey Bay Holiday Park at Point Vernon shortly after 9pm on Saturday where they found the man with life threatening injuries.

He was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital but died from his wound.

Act Det Insp Mansfield said the man had been stabbed once in the back.

A girl was taken into custody nearby and has since been charged with one count of murder.

Act Det Insp Mansfield said all three had been at the Point Vernon park when the incident happened.

He said the man had been transient, although he did have links to the Fraser Coast area.

The two had known each other for only a matter of hours before the incident happened, he said.

But he would not be drawn on what the relationship was between the two.

“There’s more questions than answers at this point in time,” he said.

“But what we do know so far is that there was a very limited relationship between this male deceased and our 14-year-old female.

“Seemingly they had only just met a matter of hours or a day leading up to the incident.

“So we are still piecing together the exact relationship.”

Act Det Insp Mansfield said police would allege there had been a teenage witness who is not accused of any wrongdoing.

He said no weapon had yet been located by the police, but officers had recovered items that could be a weapon, but investigations were still being conducted at the scene.

Police would still need to go through CCTV and mobile phones to get a full picture of the incident.

He said the teenage witness was assisting police with their inquiries, but the 14-year-old accused had not been interviewed in regards to the incident.

However from the current information police had, Act Det Insp Mansfield said police were satisfied at this early stage that “murder is the right charge”.

The 14-year-old accused is expected to appear before Hervey Bay Childrens Court on August 12.

It’s also understood the pair were known to each other.

A crime scene was established and police are guarding a section of the park on Corser St.

A post on social media warned people to avoid the area and said: “police will be on scene for most of the night”.

Anyone with information that could assist police investigations is urged to come forward.
