A top Gold Coast surgeon accused of molesting a young family member has been hit with a fresh charge of breaching bail for allegedly failing to report to police.

The doctor, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday to have his bail varied so he can contact the alleged victim’s mother.

The medico, who runs a successful surgery practice on the Glitter Strip, has been charged with three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 in regards to a “lineal descendant”.

All three charges relate to a female family member under the age of 12.

According to court documents obtained by The Courier-Mail, two of the charges stem from an alleged incident at a Gold Coast home on July 30 while a third is alleged to have taken place between January 1 and July 30 at the same address.

He was arrested and taken into police custody before being granted bail in a court hearing at Southport on August 1.

As part of his bail conditions, he has been banned from contacting the alleged victim and can have no unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16.

His bail conditions also stipulate that he report twice a week to police, but he has now been charged with failing to report on September 21.

He will face court again next week on that charge.

Last month, conditions were also imposed on his medical registration stipulating he have no contact with any patients under 18 until further notice.

The regulations have been imposed by both the Queensland Health Ombudsman and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

On Tuesday, defence lawyer Darren Mahony successfully applied to the court to have the surgeon’s bail varied so he can have contact with the complainant’s mother “who is a witness” through legal representatives.

The court heard forensic testing was still being carried out and the indecent dealing charges were adjourned until December 6 for mention.
