Detectives will allege one of the men arrested over Levi Johnson’s stabbing murder had a belief they would get patched into a bikie club for the crime.
Kyle Martin was arrested in Warwick on Saturday and was the last of four men wanted over Johnson’s death at Mansfield last week.
Martin, 24, of Birkdale, and his girlfriend, 24, were surrounded by the Special Emergency Response Team and detectives at a property on Albion St.
Mr Johnson, 23, a bikie associate known to the Comancheros, was stabbed to death in Mansfield last Monday after four men cornered him in a gym carpark.
He ran from the car but was attacked nearby before the men fled – one on foot and three in a Nissan Patrol.
Supt Massingham said a vehicle linked to Martin’s girlfriend was seen and tracked to accommodation in Warwick.
Police then followed Martin’s girlfriend who left alone to get takeaway food.
“That food was sufficient for two people and was paid in cash,” Supt Massingham said.
“It was at that time I was confident we had our wanted person.”
After being surrounded Martin surrendered just after 9.30pm. His girlfriend has not been charged.
Supt Massingham said police would allege Martin was responsible for stabbing Mr Johnson six times and that he also brought the knife.
He said one of the other men continued assaulting Mr Johnson after the stabbing in the “disgraceful” and “brutal” attack.
Supt Massingham said there had been a long-running dispute between Mr Johnson and Martin “that has been going on for some time and appears to be personal in nature”.
Martin’s arrest came after Thomas Myler was arrested on Friday and charged with murder.
Stuart Galloway, 34, and Luke Thomas Moore, 34, were charged with murder earlier in the week.
Police allege the men are members of 13 Kings, which Supt Massingham said had been around since 2013 and was “on the edge” of attempting to move into a “more hard line group”.
Police had been investigating any links to bikie gangs.
Supt Massingham said police would allege one of the four men arrested -- but not Martin -- had the belief they would get entry into a bikie gang for the crime.
“At this stage there will be some matters put before the court, with respect to motive. I can’t go into that in detail (as) we are in the sub judice period,” he said.
“But certainly some thought processes around the commission of this offence may go to inclusion on the mind of at least one of these accused, of getting into a motorcycle group upon the commission of this crime.”
Martin will face Ipswich Magistrates Court today charged with murder.
