A second man has been charged with murder over the stabbing death of a man in Mansfield this week, as a potentially “armed and dangerous” duo wanted in connection with the incident remain on the run.
On Wednesday night, police further charged 34-year-old Stuart Galloway with murder, after he was arrested in bushland near the stabbing on Monday.
He was initially charged with weapons offences on Tuesday.
Luke Thomas Moore, 34, from Birkdale has also been charged with murder after he was taken into custody on Wednesday.
He has been charged with one count each of murder, possessing dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a weapon and contravening an order regarding providing access to an electronic device.
Both men had their cases mentioned briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
The men did not appear and there was no application for bail as a magistrate cannot release a
Both men were remanded in custody with their matters adjourned to October 4.
Police have revealed more details about the moments before the brutal attack as they continue to track the missing pair down.
Kyle Martin, 24, and Thomas Myler, 35, are the last of the four suspects yet to be tracked down after allegedly fleeing the Pine Mountain Road scene where Levi Johnson was ambushed and stabbed on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said Martin and Myler were considered dangerous, possibly armed, and claimed to be a part of little-known gang “13 Kings”.
“It is in the interests of public safety that these two people are brought into custody as soon as possible,” Superintendent Massingham said.
Mr Johnson was ambushed in the carpark of Goodlife gym by a group of four men travelling in two separate vehicles on Monday afternoon.
The men allegedly smashed his windscreen with a crowbar, and when he escaped through the passenger door and ran across the road, two of the men chased him down.
The 23-year-old was stabbed multiple times and left to die in the street.
Superintendent Massingham revealed on Wednesday that the men inside the two cars had been following Mr Johnson, and he drove into the carpark to seek refuge.
“It appears that the four individuals that were (allegedly) responsible were conducting some surveillance of the victim shortly before the incident at Mansfield,” he said.
Three of the men fled the scene in a white Nissan Patrol and one fled on foot.
On Wednesday morning, another 34-year-old man was arrested in a raid on his Birkdale house. No charges have been laid yet.
Police then conducted specialist searches at homes in Ransome and Birkdale looking for Mr Martin and Mr Myler, but were unable to find them or the weapon used to kill Mr Johnson.
Superintendent Massingham said police knew who stabbed Mr Johnson, but did not want to say at this stage.
“Operationally I’d like to be in a position to offer those persons an opportunity to be interviewed and allegations put to them before I am able to formally confirm that,” he said.
Superintendent Massingham said the men allegedly claimed to be members of gang 13 Kings, a little-known gang of “individuals with similar interests”.
“The credibility of those claims is still being investigated. And any claims that that club is linked to any other outlaw gang at this stage is supposition only,” he said.
Superintendent Massingham said that it would be “premature” to link the group to any outlaw motorcycle gang, but confirmed police were investigating whether it was a feeder group.
“At this stage, that link has not been established, but we are only early days.”
But bikie insiders say the fatal stabbing was not part of a bikie gang feud, and the two groups were “pretty close”.
“There is no war between the Mongols and Comos, one million per cent,” a senior bikie insider said.
“This is not a club issue, it’s young fellas having a dispute that’s escalated in the heat of the moment.
“There were no (patched) Mongols or Comos involved.”
Superintendent Massingham said he was concerned about the level of violence in the stabbing.
“This type of violence in public space is concerning to me and should be concerning to everybody,” he said.
He said it was a possibility that Mr Myler and Mr Martin were being harboured by others in Capalaba, Birkdale or Ransome, and urged them to come forward.
“And I say to those people, that no matter how loyal you wish to remain to them, there are consequences.
“And also those that knowingly do that from today onwards put themselves in a position where they may need to be investigated for those offences of aiding or harbouring people, once it is known that they are being sought by the police for questioning.
“We make an appeal to them to hand themselves in to the nearest police station.
“But more importantly, any member of the public that does have knowledge of the whereabouts of these individuals, we ask to call Policelink.”
