Detectives are investigating if a man was killed in a brutal ambush outside a Brisbane gym after a dispute between two groups associated with bikie gangs.

Bikie associate Levi Johnson was allegedly ambushed by a group of four men and killed in a suburban street in Mansfield in front of shocked onlookers on Monday.

Police described the attack as “brazen” and “horrific” which took place in full view of CCTV cameras, without them trying to disguise themselves about 1pm.

The men allegedly used an Audi to drive up behind Mr Johnson and then used a Nissan Patrol to ram his Mercedes. The men then got out and smashed Mr Johnson’s windscreen with a crowbar in the car park at the Goodlife gym car park on Pine Mountain Dr.

Mr Johnson escaped the car and ran to a street across the road, but was pursued by two of the men. Police said one of the men stabbed him multiple times before he jumped back into the Nissan Patrol and fled with other men.

Police said they believed the other man was unable to start the Audi and fled, running into nearby bushland.

Stuart Galloway, 34, of East Brisbane, was arrested by dog squad officers about 4pm just a few hundreds metres from where Mr Johnson, 23, was stabbed.

He has since been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon (revolver), possession of detachable magazines without licence and authority required to possess explosives.

His case was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning and he was remanded in custody to appear on September 29.

Police said the charges relate to items allegedly located at a Carindale residence, and form part of ongoing homicide investigations.

Three men are still on the run.

The Courier-Mail has been told police are investigating if some of the men in the other group are associates of the Mongols.

Mr Johnson was known by members of the Comancheros but was not a patched member.

It’s understood detectives are investigating reports of a dispute recently between people in the two groups.

Multiple SES crews and police officers were back at the scene of a fatal stabbing on Tuesday morning where Mr Johnson died.

“We believe there is a number of people that witnessed this tragic event so people that may have witnessed it or who have dashcam, we ask them to come forward,” he said.

Superintendent Andrew Massingham on Monday said it was unclear if there was planning involved or whether there was an incident that escalated.

“At this stage the motive and the persons involved and their association is not clear,” he said.

“These males were extremely motivated to hunt this individual down. This incident was fully captured on CCTV. I have viewed that CCTV and it is confronting and horrific.”
