Police appeal for witnesses in Biggenden murder investigation

Police are seeking help to identify three witnesses who may be able to help with a murder investigation following the deaths of a Biggenden baker and his 10-year-old daughter.

Todd Mooney, 54, and his daughter Kirra, 10, were found dead following a ferocious fire on the family property days before Christmas.

It was first thought to be a tragedy, but police have now confirmed the December 20 deaths are being treated as suspicious.

Operation Uniform Belisama was launched on December 29 after scientific examination determined that a shed fire, in which their remains were located, was deliberately lit.

On Monday, detectives from Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch released CCTV footage and images taken at the Ban Ban Springs BP Service Station, corner of Isis Hwy and Burnett Hwy, between 11.50am and 12.20pm on Tuesday, December 20, of three people.

The three, a man on his own, and a man and woman travelling together, have no link to the deceased but may have information for the investigation, with police urgently appealing for them to come forward.

About 11.50am an elderly male driver of a white utility arrived at the Ban Ban Springs BP Service Station – he was wearing a white hat – and entered the store, buying a bottle of water.
