Police will search a neighbouring paddock near to where a baker and his 10-year-old daughter were tragically killed in a shed fire in Biggenden, west of Maryborough, as a homicide investigation is launched.
Wide Bay District Detective Chief Inspector Gary Pettiford told The Chronicle on Wednesday night the fire was being ‘treated as suspicious’.
In a statement, police confirmed that 15 SES volunteers would conduct a grid search of the neighbouring paddock on Thursday, ahead of a media conference about the murder investigation at 10.30am.
Todd Mooney, 54, and his daughter Kirra, 10, were found after the ferocious fire destroyed the shed on their rural property on December 20.
Mr Mooney owned the Biggenden Bakery alongside his fiance, Bec Hansen.
The pair were due to be married on Wednesday, with their wedding to be held at the property on Fenwicks Rd.
On Monday, a spokeswoman for the Queensland Police Service said the cause of the blaze “remains under investigation”.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner,” she said.
