Remington, Pope and Edwards lead the way at record breaking meet

Here’s 29 record breakers who surged to great heights at the Queensland School Sport swimming championships - including a whiz kid who smashed a record by almost seven seconds.

Elite Gold Coast swimmers Julia a Remington and Olympia Pope led a record breaking charge at the QRSS swimming championships.

Twenty-nine record breakers hit the water, with a Remington, Pope and the Sunshine Coast’s Georgia Edwards the highest of achievers who hit the bullseye in either the 10-12 years or 13-19 years championships.

Remington broke the 17-19 years 200m breaststroke by almost seven seconds, recording a time of 2:30.17.

RECORD BREAKERS

Julia Remington

An All Saints Anglican School swimming ace, Remington broke three individual records.

She smashed the girls 17-19 years 200m breaststroke record with a swim in 2:30.17. The previous record was Record: 2:36.96.

Remington also lowered the 17-19 years 200m IM mark by almost three seconds, winning in a blazing 2:18.43.

Then in the girls 17-19 years 100m breaststroke, Rimington found a time of 1:10.44, just ahead of the previous record of 1:10.45.

Olympia Pope

Gold Coast swimmer Olympia Pope broke girls 16 years 200m breaststroke record with a swim of 2:35.79, going well past the previous mark of 2:36.73

Pope also broke the record in the 100m breaststroke, leaving all behind her to win in 1:10.48, ahead of the previous record of 1:10.93.

However the Miami club young gun, who has been a record breaker across different junior meets over the years, was not finished there. Pope was also involved in the 13-16 years 200 Medley Relay record breaking team.

Georgia Edwards

The Matthew Flinders Anglican College student broke into uncharted waters when she secured a record in the girls 15 years 50m breaststroke event, swimming a flat 32 seconds to pass the previous mark of 32.53.

Then, in the 100m breaststroke, Edwards powered to the wall, touching in 1:10.24 which was a new record time. It was some performance as she went past the previous high water mark of 1:11.16. She was also involved in the 200m Medley Relay - see further down in this story.

Emily Holmes, Olympia Pope, Bianca Rayward, Anabelle Aulert

South Coast swimmers Holmes, Pope, Rayward and Aulert - that a bow. They all deserve an encore after combining to break the girls 13-16 years 200m Medley Relay record by .65, recording a time of 1:58.11.

Ethan Slatter

Note this performance from Southside Aquatics young gun Slatter. Representing Met West. Slatter surged through the water in the 16 years 100m butterfly, swooping to record 56.08, bettering the previous record of 56.53.

Olivia Hine

Somerville House’s Hine soared to a new record in the 16 years 50m butterfly. Blink and you would have missed her crashing record breaking swim in 27.45 which went beyond the old best time of 27.63. She was swimming for Met East.

Jack Moore

The St Joseph’s Gregory product, Rackley Centenary’s Jack Moore continued his stellar swimming career by breaking the boys 17-19 years 50m butterfly record. He edged past the previous record of 25.14 by recording a withering 25.13.

Hajin Jun

Saint Stephen’s College student Jun was in top notch form when representing the South Coast. He broke a record in the Boys 17-19 years age group, passing the 50m breaststroke record (29.37) with a swim of 29.29.

Kayden Gibson

Wow. What an effort it was from this Gladstone South Swimming Club junior. Competing in the gruelling 200m butterfly event, the 16 years swimmer crushed the old record by almost two seconds. He swam 2:05.71, passing 2:07.02.

Amelie Smith

From the high achieving Rock City club, Smith produced a great performance to rise to the occasion in the 16 years 200m girls’ IM. She powered to the wall in 2:19.68, smashing the previous record of 2:22.58. It proved a perfect build up to her high achieving efforts at the Australian Age Championships.

Matilda Grimson, Lacey Strachan, Tribeca Liu, Zahri Jarrett

What a performance it was from these outstanding swimmers who combined to break the girls 13-15 years 200m medley relay. Representing the South Coast region, then squeezed past the old mark by more than .40 seconds, recording 1:59.47.

Nash Walker, Lucas Guan, Tommy McDonald, Cormac Powell

In the boys 10 years old 200m medley relay the Met East team of Nash Walker, Lucas Guan, Tommy McDonald and Cormac Powell all powered to a record in 2:27.57, shaving .60 off the previous high water mark.

The awesome foursome raised their performance by around four seconds after being seeded with a time of 2:31.54.

Zahri Jarrett, Naiya Saladas, Maya Zunker, Tribeca Liu

The South Coast swim team had plenty to smile about at the championships, and adding to the celebrations were the performances from these elite young swimmers. In the girls 13-15 years 200m Freestyle Relay they combined to secure a record breaking time of 1:47.68.

Ava Camenzuli, Mya Harris, Zara Wogan, Roxanne Albertyn

More South Coast region success flowed courtesy of this foursome in the girls 13 Years 200m freestyle relay. Down went the previous record by .72, with the team combining to secure a breathtaking time of 1:51.08.

Charu Croker, Georgia Edwards, Emily Jack, Ruby Anderson

The sun certainly shined across the Sunshine Coast district when Croker, Edwards, Jack and Anderson stood tall in the girls 13-15 200m Medley Relay. Away they went, setting a record of 1:59.30, .62 better than the previous mark.
