Jordan Fulton officially broke the Barron River senior games record over the weekend in his 246th appearance, surpassing club stalwart Steve Errey.

As one of his club’s most faithful servants, Fulton has been an integral part of the club’s success since his debut as a 13-year-old in the 2006-07 season.

The CFN one-club bowler broke into the first grade side in the 2009-10 season.

Known as the blistering opening bowler, Fulton became the club’s all-time leading wicket-taker in February 2023, moving ahead of local legend Errey with 289 wickets – Fulton now has 316 career wickets.

Having represented both Barron River and the Far North, including playing for Fusion in the Bulls Masters Country Challenge, Fulton now reflects on the dream team of Barron River cricketers he’s shared the field with since 2006.

Here’s his line-up of the best players he’s had the privilege to play alongside.

1. Tim Ward – Leading run scorer at the club, multiple club champion and a league medal. Ward celebrated his 200th match for the club in the dominant victory over Atherton in round 11. The current club captain

2. Ben Shrimpton – A great player for Barron River and consistently solid up the top of the batting order. Willow-wielding dynamo scored multiple first grade hundreds during his time at the club.

3. Michael Raso – Raso at his best is probably the best batsman I played with. The left hand bat had a season averaging close to 90 while he was also playing for the Italian national cricket team.

4. Fred Pittorino – One of the strongest competitors in Cricket Far North competition for years. Pittorino was the best captain I played for with his man-management and leadership on and off the field.

5. Adam Trewin – Trewin already has multiple first grade hundreds and we usually come away with the victory when he gets runs. He is the best fielder I’ve played with.

6. Matt Robertson – Great left arm pace bowler, strong competitor and quality teammate to open the bowling with. Also very handy with the bat.

7. Paul Carbone(WK) – Solid batsman and brilliant wicket keeper. Had a run for a number of years in the rep team and he’s a cricketer I wish we got more seasons out of.

8. Dan Weston – Very much the heart and soul of Barron. Incredibly underrated cricketer who was uncomfortable to face. Super tough player.

9. Sean prior – Prior is the most underrated player in Cairns cricket. Terrific spinner who matches up really well against gun players.

10. Rick Donnelly – My favourite teammate, Donnelly is the toughest player I’ve played with. Really solid attacking bowler who was selected a few times for the rep team. Finished his career with 234 wickets for Barron River.

11. Kaiden Sorensen – Another gun opening bowler. Very hard to get any runs off and I wish we still had him for a few more seasons.

12. Steve Errey – Held the games and wickets record before me – holding the Barron River leading wicket-taker label for almost 20 years with 288 wickets.

Errey is an inaugural member of the club and a fantastic mentor for those coming through.
