Cairns Rovers all-rounder Brenton Edwards recently earned a prestigious spot in the Australian over-40s T20 team, set to compete in the upcoming World Series Cup in Brisbane.

Ready to represent his country, Edwards is gearing up for an exciting clash with New Zealand, the USA and Canada as he looks ahead to the 2025 over-40s World Cup in Karachi later this year.

The Tully-born demon paceman has played for a number of clubs in the region, including Tully, Cassowary Coast and Rovers.

The 40-year-old, in the spirit of making the national side has selected his ultimate dream team from the region, including both current and former CFN superstars.

See the stacked line-up here.

1. Wade Frazer – A left-handed batsman who, on many occasions, destroyed bowling attacks to pieces. Had an esteemed career in the region and is now the Cricket Far North Fusion head coach.

2. Gerard Fox – One of the best opening batsmen to have played in the Cairns competition. Gritty and very difficult to get out. If you were lucky enough to bowl to him, you definitely earned it.

3. Robert Colville – A prolific run scorer at both club and representative levels, Colville could bat all day in long-format cricket on any occasion.

4. Jake Roach – Absolute competitor. I have always loved playing with and against Roach. One of the best all-rounders to come out of Cairns.

5. Chris Stanger – An unbelievable bat who can take a game away from a team in no time. Stanger can also rip through a team with his left arm unorthodox spin.

6. Angus Warnock (WK) – The best wicketkeeper bat to come out of Far North Queensland. Warnock leads by example and let’s his bat do the talking.

7. Darryl Bridgeman – One of the quickest and most aggressive fast bowlers to come out of the region. There was never a time you felt comfortable facing Bridgeman.

11. Ben Cust – An imposing opening bowler. ‘Custy’ was always a challenge to face with the Norths and Barron River making an Australian Country side.

Notable mentions:

Justin Reid – When Reid is on, there’s no bowler who could stop him. A premiership captain, he’s capable of doing damage with the ball while possessing a safe pair of hands as wicketkeeper.

Fred Pittorino – One of the toughest competitors I’ve ever faced. On numerous occasions, Pittorino has come up against the team I’m playing for, wrestling momentum back in his favour with his bat or winning.

Mitchell Steele – Narrowly missed out on selection. The tall Atherton quick had the potential to play more high level cricket, if it wasn’t for recurring injuries.
