Cricket Far North (CFN) announces that its Grand Finals will be held at Cazalys Stadium for the first time in more than two decades.
The Grand Finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 22, Sunday, March 23 and Saturday, March 29.
The Jimmy Maher Cup U18 will open the fixtures at 8AM on Saturday, March 22, with third grade to be played at 1PM, and the women’s grand final to be played later in the evening.
Fixtures on Sunday, March 23 will begin with the fourth grade grand final, followed by the second grade grand final at 1:30PM.
The final showdown for first grade will take place on Saturday, March 29.
First grade semi-finals and grand finals will start an hour and a half earlier at 11AM, as opposed to the usual 12:30PM start, to allow for extra time in the event of potential lost play due to poor weather conditions.
Semi final fixtures will be played at the home ground of the highest-placed team, with second and third grade semi finals to remain on Sunday.
Following the delay of the 2024 CFN first grand final due to poor weather and the cancellation of the 2023 CFN first grade final, this change increases the likelihood of a match result being achieved.
Sunday, March 30 is scheduled as a backup day for the first grade grand final if the original date is called off.
In first grade, league leaders Norths (78 points) and reigning premiers Mulgrave (72 points) are set to feature in the post season, while Rovers (60 points), Barron River (57 points) and Atherton (57 points) chase the third spot.
