With $23.5 million in funding locked away after last year’s Queensland state election, the search has begun for Harrup Park to gain federal funding for the completion of the project.

And while no commitments have been made by either major party as yet, Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox has offered his support for the project.

“I think it’s a very worthy project and as everyone knows the Federal election has not been called yet,” Mr Willcox said in a statement.

“I will be having more to say about future commitments during the campaign. However right now as I am the current Federal Member I am focused on looking after my constituents.”

Once completed, the project will include a wide variety of new training, playing and recovery facilities for players of multiple sports across all abilities.

“This is about real investment, this is games on for the Mackay ahead of the 2032 games. We’re making sure every region can benefit from the Olympic Games,” Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said at the time of the funding announcement.
