Teams start quest for a state championship at the Basketball Qld CBSQ tournament (CBSQ 2022 )

Day one of the Basketball Queensland CSBQ tournament has wrapped up. Watch all the replays here.

The quest for a state championship tips off as teams from all over compete in the Basketball Queensland CBSQ tournament at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.

And all the action from court two in hall two of the arena will be livestreamed in this story.

Today’s games feature a mix of Division 2 and Champ Division games as teams look to get off to the perfect start.

BOYS CHAMP DIV: St Joseph’s Nudgee College def Dakabin SHS 86-66

Nudgee College have taken a massive step towards sealing top spot in Pool D of the Boys Champ Division after going undefeated on day one of the tournament.

Following a close 86-78 win over Churchie this morning, Nudgee proved too good for Dakabin, running away with a 20-point victory.

BOYS DIV 2: St Joseph’s College, Toowoomba def Marist College Ashgrove 63-56

A 21-point performance from Patrick Aleer has led St Joseph’s College, Toowoomba to an important seven-point victory over Marist College Ashgrove in the Boys Division 2 competition competition on the Gold Coast.

Aleer was in dominant form as Toowoomba had the better of the second half and took another step towards sealing a spot in the crossovers later in the week.

David Deng also was impressive for Toowoomba with 17 points while Ashton Waters also contributed 12.

Brent Humphreys led the way for Marist with 13 points followed by Ethen Tsiamalili with 10.

BOYS CHAMP DIV: Brisbane SHS def Mountain Creek SHS 67-40

A convincing 27-point victory has helped Brisbane State High School start their CBSQ tournament in perfect fashion.

State High, who came into the tournament as one of the championship contenders, struggled to pull away from the Creekers early on leading by just single digits towards halftime.

But their depth and skill shines through in the second half as they ran away with the result in a dominant performance.

Summah Hanson was impressive with 21 points for State High with Alleah Hanson also scoring 13 followed by Prasayus Notoa with 11.

Ava Nason led the scoring for Mountain Creek with 14.

GIRLS DIV 2: Dakabin SHS def Northside Christian College 36-27

Dakabin State High School have claimed a hardfought win to start their CBSQ campaign over Northside Christian College.

Both teams matches each other run for run throughout the 40 minutes but Dakabin made the plays when it mattered most in the battle of schools in Brisbane’s north.

Malu-Sianne Auda led the scoring with 11 points for Dakabin while Bridie Shore had seven for Northside.

BOYS CHAMP DIV: Brisbane SHS def Palm Beach Currumbin SHS 92-27

Championship contenders Brisbane State High School made a statement in their opening game of the tournament, showing they are ready to go one step further than last year following a 65-point victory over PBC.

State High looked a class above from the start, restricting their Gold Coast opponents to single digits in the first quarter and getting whatever they wanted on the offensive end.

From there, Kris Robinsons team never let up as four players scored in double figures and keeping everyone from the opposing side from reaching double figures.

Jalen Blanchard led the way with 16 points followed by Mason Amos with 13, James Lewis with 11 and Elijah Kamu with 10.

BOYS DIV 2: Good Shepherd Lutheran College def Woodridge SHS 66-45

(NOTE: Teams were evacuated half way through. The replay videos are both from the same game to exclude the long break in between)

Noosa’s Good Shepherd Lutheran College tipped-off day one of the Basketball Queensland CBSQ with a dominant 21-point victory over Woodridge State High School.

Good Shepherd ran out to an early lead and could never be pulled back from there as big man Liam Switzer started his tournament in red hot form with 21 points.

His teammate, Elijah Wood, was also impressive with 18 points.

Ahmed Eshag led the way for Woodridge with 11 points.
