The state’s best young hoops talents will take to the Gold Coast this week as they compete in the annual Champion Basketball School of Queensland tournament.
Hosted by Basketball Queensland from Thursday through to Sunday at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, the tournament will also be livestreamed by NewsCorp as part of our ongoing coverage of the sport.
All games on court two in hall two will be livestreamed as St Margaret Mary’s from Townsville look to capture another title in the Girls Division 1 tournament, while teams will look to knock off Anglican Church Grammar School in the boys.
Even though Churchie are the defending champions, it will be GPS heavyweights The Southport School and Brisbane State High, who will go into the tournament as favourites.
The 2021 CBSQ tournament is the latest Basketball Queensland event to be livestreamed by NewsCorp after recently covering other competitions such as the Queensland State League and junior State Championships across all age groups.
NewsCorp’s head of livestreaming, Thea Salter, said News and Basketball Queensland’s streaming partnership continued to grow.
“We are thrilled to be showcasing the CBSQ Open tournament being held across four days starting this Thursday,” she said.
“We will also be streaming the CBSQ Junior Secondary in mid October. We wish all the students the very best of luck across both competitions.”
Basketball Queensland COO, Joshua Pascoe, said they were excited NewsCoro have come on board to cover the CBSQ Junior and Secondary tournaments again this year.
“Not only are we giving more family members the chance to tune in and watch these teams compete, but it showcases just how exciting basketball is to a wider audience,” he said.
