Josiah Fesolai is the complete package who could be flying under the radar ahead of the ASSRL Under-18 Nationals.

The Central Coast Roosters young gun will line up in the backrow for a talent-packed NSW Combined Independent Schools side led by NSW Under-19s Origin star Mitchell Woods.

After spending the last two years on top of the under-age nationals, the NSW CIS side will be determined to translate that into their first national championship In Coffs Harbour.

Every match of the ASSRL National Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV, across all of News Corp Australia’s digital mastheads, from July 7-12.

Fesolai will likely be at the heart of their charge, with his college coach and former NRL player, Mick Sullivan, rating the backrower as one of the best juniors he has seen coming through the school’s league program.

The backrower has led the Central Coast Sports College to the Peter Mulholland Cup finals in just the school’s second season in the Schoolboys Cup, knocking off reigning national champions Westfields Sports High in a competition boilover.

“He is one that is probably as far along his development as an all-round player as you could be at his age,” Sullivan said. “He is hard running, he is a great defender but he can also really ball play in the middle.

He really fits into any system you need him to.

“He has come along in leaps and bounds in the last few years. We always knew he had the potential to be that starting lock, but he has had to work hard. Every week he is out there practising his ball playing, his footwork and his wrestling.

“He is a smart footballer. He knows what he wants and he is always trying to work towards it.”

Fesolai will lead an impressive cast of Central Coast Sports College players in the NSW CIS side, with five players named in the boys open squad and an incredible 11 girls out of a squad of 20.

The College’s starting front row pairing of Tanner Mahon and Devonte Vaotu’ua, the latter who this week signed a deal with South Sydney, will start for the NSW CIS side in Coffs Harbour.

Christian Pasikala will come off the bench, while exciting dummy-half Lachlan Simpson was given a late call up into the squad as injury cover.

Sullivan said he was proud to see the development of the school’s league program, which earlier this year welcomed former Raiders playmaker Blake Austin to its coaching ranks alongside Paul Franze.

“We have been building pretty nicely over the last few years,” Sullivan said.

“It was tough early on, when we started we were taking players from all walks of sporting life. We were chucking swimmers out on the wings.

“With the explosion of league at the school it has allowed us to really refine our program and make it as professional as we can.”
