Day one’s livestream schedule is headlined by three championship contending teams with the undefeated Cairns Marlins starting the tournament with a clash against the Northside Wizards while the SQJBC champion Gold Coast Rollers and minor premiers, Southern Districts Spartans, in action later in the day.

The Marlins come into the state championships after dominating the NQJBC competition, winning 12 consecutive games without many challenging match-ups.

Gold Coast have rolled into the tournament after capturing the SQJBC title while the Spartans will be looking to bounce back after a surprise loss to RedCity in the SQJBC semi-finals last month.

The first day of streaming will also include several Division 4 matches and one Division 2 clash.

The Cairns Marlins have started their tournament in impressive form to beat the Northside Wizards by 14 points in their opening round game in Pool A.

Jumping out to an early double-digit lead, the Marlins were able to hold off a tough Wizards side for the rest of the game to continue their undefeated season so far after going 12 games without a loss in the north Queensland competition.

Benjamin Accoom didn’t take long to hit form for Cairns, scoring 31 points with five three-pointers to lead the scoring against Northside with Noah Kirk recording 15 points, Kyzen Luki reaching 13 and Sean O’Riley also scoring in double figures for Cairns with 10 points.

Both Sambrano and Ikitau scored 20 points each as the Pirates started their tournament in the best way possible against their north Queensland opponents.

The Meteors continued to fight but were just outmatched by South West Metro, who extended their advantage and finished with a 25-point victory.

Aiden Ball (11 points) also reached double figures for the Pirates while Mackay had four players score in double figures, led by Eligh Kingston with 17 and Taj Goodwin with 16.

REPLAY: Div 4 – Toowoomba Neers def Gympie Comets 64-38

Toowoomba have put in a dominant second half to record a convincing 26-point victory over the Gympie Comets to start their Division 4 championships.

Both teams struggled to grab the momentum throughout most of the first half but it was the Mountaineers, who finished the first 20 minutes with a push to go into the main break with a double-digit lead.

From there, it was all Toowoomba as Gympie were unable to fight their way back as the Mountaineers found their form, especially on the defensive end to run away with the contest.

Harlie-Jay Wolski was the top scorer for Toowoomba with 15 points while Daniel Dighton had 13 for Gympie.

Replay: Basketball Queensland Under-16 State Championships - Gold Coast Rollers vs Townsville Heat (Div 1)

REPLAY: Div 1 – Gold Coast Rollers def Townsville Heat 109-63

A 46-point victory over the Townsville Heat has helped the Gold Coast Rollers finish their first day of round games in Pool A in dominant fashion.

The SQJBC champions, who are looking to complete a gold medal double this season, came into the clash against the Heat on the back of a 56-point win over the North Gold Coast Seahawks earlier in the day at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

And it looked as though the Rollers improved by their second game, running out to a 32-point lead at halftime and never looking back.

The convincing lead allowed the Rollers to share the court time for their squad, a key factor with three days of competition left in the tournament.

Indy Cotton led the way for Gold Coast with 23 points while Sam Scott had 22.

Regan Blachford was the most impressive for Townsville with 21 points.

Replay: Basketball Queensland Under-16 State Championships - Southern Districts Spartans vs Rockhampton Rockets (Div 1)

REPLAY: Div 1 – Southern Districts Spartans def Rockhampton Rockets 102-65

The Southern Districts Spartans look like they are on a mission after going through day one of the Division 1 Pool A games without a challenge.

After a 41-point demolition of the Logan Thunder earlier in the day, the Spartans backed it up with a 37-point victory over the Rockhampton Rockets to sit at the top of their pool’s ladder.

The performances show the Spartans know what is at stake after looking to rebound from a semi-final’s loss in the SQJBC competition last month.

Southern Districts did it with their depth against Rockhampton as five players scored in double figures led by Logan Siolo with 18 points and Cletz Amos with 17 points.

Brayden Huff was impressive for the Rockets with 17 points.
