There was a rousing start to the senior championship when the swimmers broke the water in the 400m open freestyle.

The best of GPS was on show as Edward Nelson (BGS) and Matthew Lowe (TSS) went stroke for stroke down the final 50m, with Nelson winning in 4:07.36, just .02 ahead of Lowe. Terrace’s Jayden Condon raised a cheer with third place.

The intensity didn’t evaporate at all when the 200m IM boys broke the water, with thrilling prospect Ike Martinez (Terrace) first past the post from grand campaigner William Shepherd-Smith (Churchie) and Cashy Luo (BGS).

The flying 50m freestyle swimmers then provided all the fun of the fair, with the 13 years won by Lync Lauder (Nudgee) from Mason Gao (BGS) and third placed Matthew Forrest (Churchie).

Then 50m events then saw victories to Matthew Turner (Nudgee, 14 years), Samuel Zhang (BGS, 15 years), Max Ford (Terrace, 16 years) and Conias (BSHS, 17 years) in record time.

Ford was engulfed by teammates as he left the pool, while Zhang was confronted by a deafening din generated by the BGS army of supporters.

The Ipswich Grammar School cheer squad then roared home high class backstroker Zacharias Carvolth (13 years), while the BGS supporters were on their feet again to greet Eugene Lee’s swim to the wall (14 years).

The remaining backstroke events were won by Lachlan Park (TGS, 15 years), Thomas Garbanzo (BGS, 16 years) and Layke Shipley (Nudgee, open).

Shipley found himself challenged by Lowe (TSS), and just .08 of a second was the difference.

Nudgee’s Lauder was the main man in the 13 years 100m freestyle, powering to victory ahead of Gao (BGS), while Nudgee and BGS filled one and two again in the 14 years - with BGS’s Eugene winning from Nudgee’s Matthew Turner.

TGS’s Parker was on the podium again, finishing second to BGS’s Hayden Cahill in the 15 years, while in the 16 years 100m free Cashy (BGS) was the best in the business, staying ahead of Hudson Sheehan (TSS).

The crowd then had another sighting of Conias, a supreme sprint talent, in the open 100m and didn’t he motor, winning in 51.52 seconds.

But it was BGS’s who would take some catching. That’s for sure.

Wins continued in the breaststroke courtesy of Max Goa (16 years), Max Whang (14 years) and Mason Gao (13 years).

Nudgee’s Dominic Osswald then bounced up out of the pack to win the 100m open breaststroke. It was exciting stuff.

Nudgee continued to stay alongside the ladder topping BGS, with Lauder and Angus Cran firing the defending champions to maximum points in the 13 years and 14 years butterfly respectively.

Jack McMahon (BBC) rose in the 16 years butterfly, Martinez (Terrace) was sensational in his open event, while Zhang (BGS) won again in the 15 years.

Martinez was again magnificent for Terrace, this time in the 200m freestyle, while Nudgee’s Matthew Turner was simply marvellous in the 13 years 200m free. TSS’s Hudson Sheehan was also first class in his 15 years and under race.

The tail wagged for Ipswich Grammar School who struck to win the 13 years 200m medley relay (Lane Carvolth, Cameron and Kim), and then finish secnod in the 14 years medley relay (Williams, Surjaatmadja, Taione and Joy).

And Terrace finished on a high when Mann, Voltz, Small and Ford combined to snare a hard earned 16 years 6x50m freestyle relay win.

TSS supporters also roared home its 200m medley relay team of Plowman, Wendt, Osswald and Shipley.
