Churchie remained in GPS First XI premiership contention, but the big top two clash looms this weekend when The Southport School play unbeaten Ipswich Grammar School.

And entering the game TSS’s Jacob Bath, with runs (82, 75 balls) and wickets (2-31), remains in fantastic form, again earning a place in our Team of the Week following round 5 action this weekend.

He entered the season one of the very top crop of players, and Bath is not disappointing either at the bowling crease, or with bat in hand.

If he misses out with the bat, he delivers as a bowler, emphasised by an earlier season haul of 3-28.

Bath was one of five The Southport School players named in our Team of the Week.

Opener Ishaan Sandhu, with 54 on Saturday to go with an 82 earlier in the season, Year 10 ace Jaxson Davies (227 runs so far, including 54 at the weekend), keeper and captain Riley Johnson and bowling linchpin Ryan Summers (four wickets) all made our side this week.

The side includes two Churchie stars, opener Connor Rudman, and left arm orthodox spinner Henry Hillier who is doing his best to be named Player of the Season.

Both starred in their team’s seven wicket win over BBC, helping Churchie remain third behind TSS and IGS, and well in contention.

THE MATCHES

At Tennyson, Nudgee College held its nerve to successfully chase down Gregory Terrace’s 151 run total and bring up a convincing seven-wicket-victory.

Opener Matthew Fielding (43, 80 balls) and his partner Findlay Jones (66 not out, 126 balls) were excellent with the bat, taking Nudgee towards Terrace’s total with a telling opening partnership.

Finishing the job off was Jack Burton (23) and Amitoj Sidhu (12) who had a wonderful partnership that saw Nudgee to victory.

Earlier, Nudgee’s bowlers did well to restrict the flow of runs.

It’s not mystery scoring runs on Internationals Oval is a tough task but promising Theo Bacalakis dug his heels in and produced 75.

Bacalakis braved the opening bowlers, and stayed in the middle long enough to help Terrace into triple digits.

Bacalakis was at his best alongside Harry DeSouza who scored 40, with the pair of them linking in a fabulous partnership which was the bedrock of the Terrace innings.

Nudgee bowlers Angus McLean, Karmichael Dee, Billy Connellan and Spencer Green picked up wickets, but more importantly kept it tight and bowled just four extras across the entire 50 overs.

That was what won them the game, although Jones’ unbeaten 66 and Fielding’s 43 was considerable.

The development of young leg spinner Spencer Green (2-21) continued to be a positive for Nudgee this season.

At the Village Green, TSS continued on its way to a premiership decider against IGS with a magnificent 227 run win over BSHS.

TSS had the upper hand from the get-go courtesy of opening batters Cameron Sinfield and Ishaan Sandhu, who put on a 34-run stand to get proceedings underway.

Sinfield scored 28 from 34 and Sandhu 54 from 70 to take the sting out of the new ball and from there, it was smooth sailing.

TSS scored freely and everyone chipped in to post a season high 333 runs.

After Sandhu’s half century, Jacob Bath blitzed 82 from 75, the No. 3 bat belting seven fours and four sixes much to the delight of the Sharky Army.

Jaxson Davies was the third player, of four, to notch a half century. The No. 4 bat scored a rapid-fire 52 from 32 to deplete the BSHS bowlers further, Davies tonking four sixes and three fours as TSS approached 250.

Finishing the job was wicketkeeper batsmen Riley Johnson who had a classy knock of 65 from 58 deliveries.

Johnson showed determination, poise and willingness to work for his runs. It was a magnificent knock which followed three TSS half centuries.

Dushyant Thaman (20) and Jason Campese (22) had a taste of the fun late in the innings as well to extend TSS’ score out to a whopping 333.

For BSHS, Pranshu Dave’s three wickets were a highlight as was wicketkeeper batsmen Henry Palmer’s 42 run knock in pursuit of TSS’s total.

Palmer shone bright in a losing side, delivering a team-best innings which featured two fours and two sixes.

At the bowling crease, TSS opening bowler Ryan Summers was on song collecting four wickets, two of which were BSHS’s openers.

Around him, Bath (10-2-31-2), Sinfield (6-2-11-2) and Thaman (6-1-26-2) were effective in earning TSS an 18 over early mark.

At Northgate, Toowoomba Grammar secured a three-wicket-victory on the back of inspired batting efforts by impressive pair Dominic Black (47) and Gurnoor Randhawa, whose three wickets with the ball proved monumental.

Toowoomba batted first and had players chip in here, there and everywhere. Joshua Cranston (15) and Black (47) began the innings in style before Randhawa (14), Cooper Webster (21), Connor Walker (30) and Rhys Johnston (24 not out) saw out the fifty overs with lovely cameos.

The partnership between Walker and Johnston was just magnificent, the No. 7 and No. 8 batters putting on 54 together to push Toowoomba’s total towards 200.

The home side finished 7-188. Henry Mercer was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 8-1-26-2 but Eli Brain 10-1-23-1 and Rishi Mehta (10-0-26-0) deserve praise for their economical bowling.

In pursuit of Toowoomba’s total, Brisbane Grammar started well with Sam Wallwork (36) taking it to his rivals.

He and Hugo Spencer (44) were excellent with the bat, but Brisbane Grammar struggled to score at an efficient rate, due to Toowoomba’s pressure bowling.

Gurnoor Singh Randhawa was at the fore with his tight bowling, and around him Charlie Lachmund, Dominic Black and Cooper Webster bowled well for little reward.

Gurnoor Singh Randhawa has been a regular in our Teams of the Week across the opening rounds for his batting, but it was his bowling (3-16, 10 overs) which earned him selection this week.

Black has also been in good form for TGS this season.

At Churchie, ace opener Connor Rudman again anchored his team to victory as Churchie made 3-157 after dismissing BBC for

Henry Hillier again starred with 3-25 (9.4 overs) and a run out as BBC’s top order slipped on the moist surface at Churchie.

Firstly it was Daniel Boreham who knocked the cream off the top by dismissing both openers, then Rupert Bignall and Tighe Morris chipped in with three wickets between them and BBC were in grave trouble.

A rescue mission was mounted by D’Arcy Satharasinghe (48, 77 balls) and Christian Alexander (30), but Hiller ran out Alexander and BCC’s innings slid away again.

Tighe Morris’s 1-21 from 10 overs needs to be emphasised.

When Churchie batted, Angus Storen was the aggressive opener with a positive 31 from 40 balls, but after he was dismissed, Rudman pushed on patiently.

What was the hurry?

There was a mini collapse with BBC claimed two wickets with run outs, but then Jayden Draper, the captain, made his presence felt.
