A teenage SA country cricketer produced one of the biggest knocks in amateur history over the weekend as his side remained undefeated to begin the season.

Mypolonga Cricket Club batter Brayden Hein made a remarkable 304 not out off just 98 balls against Tailem Bend on Saturday in the Murray Towns Cricket Association’s C Grade competition.

The 17-year-old opened for his side and quickly found a zone, hitting a mammoth 38 sixes and 12 fours as he led the team to a 7-0 season start on the season.

“I obviously wasn’t expecting to go out there and make that many runs but I got out there, started hitting a few and just kept rolling,” Hein said.

“I was in a bit of a zone, it felt awesome but also so surreal – I just kept hitting them right out of the middle.”

Hein was not the only Mypolonga batter to make a big total on the day, with captain Matt Crocker and number four batter Brendan Lambe both making centuries.

The three led the side to an astounding 4/660 total.

“The support I had from the team and also from Matt (Crocker) who was out there with me was great,” Hein said.

“The whole team did really well – everyone chipped in and played their part and it was great to see Lambey make a century as well after being run out in the 90s a couple times already.”

Not known as a prolific batter heading into the 2022-2023 season, Hein said he had managed to develop reasonably quickly to begin the campaign.

He now hopes to continue his hot form for the C Grade side and compete for game time at B and A Grade levels as the club pushes for finals in all three competitions.

“I started off the season a bit rocky but I’ve managed to progress each week and I made a strong 89 in my previous outing which definitely helped me for the Tailem Bend game,” Hein said.

“I’ve had a lot of people get around me after the performance and my confidence is right up at the moment so I’m hoping I can continue producing and helping the club to win in various grades.”

Hein’s knock is believed to be the biggest total and fastest triple-ton in association history.

Team captain Matt Crocker said the club was striving to find out the full extent of the achievement before the end of the campaign.

“There’s no doubt he would have broken a lot more (records) but we probably won’t find out exactly how historic it was until we’re closer to the end of the season,” he said.

Mypolonga bowled Tailem Bend at a total of 173 to seal the win.
