West Adelaide champion Logan Hill backs Edwardstown for another Adelaide Footy League grand final push

A SANFL premiership player, 200-gamer and club best and fairest believes his new Adelaide Footy League side is ready for another deep finals run in 2023.

Edwardstown wins through to the grand final

An Adelaide Footy League club is on track for the ultimate success in 2023 according to one of the competition’s biggest signings of 2022.

Logan Hill, who tallied 200 career games, a club best and fairest and a premiership for West Adelaide during his SANFL career said new club Edwardstown could take it to the best sides in division two next season after a strong 2022.

Hill joined Towns in October and is one of the top Adelaide Footy League pick-ups this pre-season, marking a major signing for Edwardstown after the club made the division three grand final against eventual premier Golden Grove last season.

“I watched a couple Townies games last season and one was the grand final against Golden Grove – the Kookaburras were very strong and will probably be the benchmark again next year but I definitely think we’re up for the fight,” Hill said.

“The group is a really eager bunch of fellas and I’ve got to know coach Damian Salievic and president Eddie Dessmann well.

“They’ve laid out a very strong plan to me and they want to not only have success in division two but to get to division one and compete there so that was something I really liked.”

Hill played 16 league games for the Bloods last season, averaging 22 disposals, five marks and three tackles a game.

The star midfielder has joined close mates and former West Adelaide stars Aaron Anderson and Josh Schiller at Edwardstown, a factor he said was key to the move.

“Once I got to that 200-game milestone at Westies I thought it was probably time for me to step down and let the young wave of players continue to come through,” Hill said.

“I’d play at West Adelaide til I die if I could but once I decided it was time to leave Edwardstown was very appealing to me.

“I wanted somewhere relatively close to home and the ground is about 500 metres from my doorstep. Josh (Schiller) and Aaron (Anderson) are two of my closest mates so to play with them again is going to be pretty awesome.”

While Towns have lost key players Cam Forbes and Ryan Phillips ahead of next season, the addition of Hill should see the list remain competitive in division two.

Hill believed he could contribute on and off the park as the club looked to reach another grand final.

“Division two is going to be really competitive with Golden Grove and now Mitch Grigg at Athlestone as well but I think we have a lot of potential.

“I’m hoping I can bring my 15 years of SANFL experience off the field and on the field if my body holds up, I’m feeling really good at the moment.

“I’m a teacher during the day and love helping younger people succeed so I’m looking to assist Damian wherever I can as well.”
