This year’s Bridge to Brisbane saw a crowd of 35,000 people spanning all ages and abilities run, jog, walk and wheel their way across the iconic Gateway Bridge.

The turnout was one of the largest in the event’s 28-year history, bringing the total number of entrants to 693,000 since the event’s inception in 1997.

Organisers expanded the event for 2024 to meet overwhelming public demand after selling out at 30,000 participants in 2023.

The Sunday Mail Editor Melanie Pilling said that the annual event celebrates community and connection, and inspires “goodwill and generosity” in Brisbane.

“There is something so remarkable about seeing thousands of happy runners, wheelers and walkers streaming over the Gateway Bridge at the start of the 10km course,” Ms Pilling said.

“This annual event has raised many millions of dollars for Queensland charities and community groups since it began and I was so delighted to see the community come together once again to embrace this spirit of philanthropy.”

More than $1 million was raised this year for organisations including The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund, Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland, Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Lady Musgrave Trust, Beyond DV, The Pyjama Foundation, Foodbank Queensland, Legacy, Small Steps 4 Hannah and many more.

Transurban Public Affairs Director Queensland Ruth Moody said Team Transurban was proud to be named the highest fundraising team for the fourth year, smashing its $150,000 target to raise more than $285,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities SEQ.

“Our 400-strong Team Transurban dug deep, not only conquering the Gateway Bridge incline but also raising an amazing $285,000 for our long-term partner, Ronald McDonald House Charities SEQ.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part in the event, in what is a true celebration of our great city, all in the name of charity.”
