When it comes to colourful outfits at this year’s Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane Lulu Lemans might just take the cake.
The ambassador for Small Steps 4 Hannah – the charity set up in memory of Hannah Clarke and her children Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey to halt the cycle of domestic violence – has vowed to do something rather unique if she hits her $10,000 fundraising target.

“This year I have decided to throw my wig in the ring and put my money where my mouth is, so if I can hit my target, I won’t just be running the race, I will be running the race in drag,” she said.
“I think I will be the only runner who has to pack a spare pair of eyelashes.”
The Lady Musgrave Trust and Small Steps 4 Hannah have joined forces for Bridge to Brisbane this year, with the help of construction company McNab.
The partnership is all about working together to eliminate domestic and family violence, coercive control and homelessness.
Lemans said she jumped at the chance to fundraise for SS4H after the organisation reached out to her.
“If I can help this incredible organisation by donning sequins and lashes and getting lots of attention, then you bet I absolutely will,” she said.
“Domestic and family violence affects such a large part of our community and I have witnessed first-hand the impacts that this has had on many people.
“The organisation does incredible work educating the community and reaching out to those most at risk, to help identify warning signs, patterns and red flags early on.”
The Bridge to Brisbane is on September 8, with entry numbers now exceeding last year’s 30,000 mark.
Ava Curtis, from McNab Construction, said there was a large group of workers preparing for the community fun run.
“This year, it’s even more meaningful because a team of 30 from McNab is running in support of the Lady Musgrave Trust,” she said.
“It’s a cause close to our hearts, as our two organisations are partnering to build new housing that offers a safe haven for women and children at risk of domestic violence.
“I signed up for the 10km event and I’m feeling pretty good about my training. A few of us from McNab did a 10km run on the Sunshine Coast earlier this month, and we’re all really looking forward to this one.”
