MAFS’s Jules Robinson: ‘Jessika Power just wants one thing’

Like most people, there were a lot of things that Jess and Dan did that I disagreed with, writes Married At First Sight’s Jules Robinson. But some fans of the show seem to forget that we’re real people with real feelings.

MAFS 2019 Episode 41 Recap: The Season Finale

The biggest problem with Married At First Sight this year was that the people on it were way too young.

I said that a few times during filming: I think it should be a show that only has people over 30 on it. Not because I think we’re better than others, but because most people just don’t know who they are yet in their 20s. I know I’m speculating and can’t talk for everyone, but I know personally I didn’t and that most people don’t.

There’s so much you have to figure out and so much work you have to do on yourself in your 20s, and if you’re still looking for love in your 30s, you’ve usually figured all of that out. By then, you want to find that forever person.

I mentioned this a lot to other participants while filming. Not all of them agreed, but I stand by it.

Before going on the show I spent seven years dating and discovering hard things about myself and working through them. It helped me look for a man that I knew would be the right partner for me.

I came in to the show being honest and vulnerable and I was willing to be honest about that in exchange for the chance of love. That’s what I was really trying to get across to Martha and Jess.

I’m not being “ageist” with the divide of women versus girls, but it boils down to your actions. And maybe that’s just the process of your 20s that we saw in this series.

During one of the dinner parties when Jess was still with Mick, Cam pulled her aside for a chat (he did that with a lot of the participants — they call him Dr Cam now!) and he gave her some advice about how to handle the situation she was creating for herself. He’s had his own struggles in the past and thought that he could offer her lessons he’s learned along the way and I really love that about him.

Whether people admit it or not, we’ve all done things that Jess and Dan did at some point in a relationship. Be it lying to your partner, cheating, going behind their back — you name it, we’ve all done it in some form. The difference is that we haven’t had to face the consequences of doing it on national television.

We’ve all copped it in different ways since Married At First Sight finished this week, but no one more so than Jess.

There were a lot of things she did throughout the series that I disagreed with and her husband Mick was my mate.

But sometimes fans of the show seem to forget that we’re real people and there’s just no need to be spoken to or have the things said about you that Jess has had thrown at her this week.

I can’t say whether Jess and Dan are still together today because I don’t actually know. From the Talking Married interview that aired on Monday night it seems like they’re not, but I just don’t know.

What I will say, though, is that at the end of the day, Jess wants what we all wants. She’s just looking for someone to love her. That’s the reason we all went on the show in the first place.

I, for one, really hope she finds it.
