A Brisbane business trainee who attempted to rape a woman in a public park in the city’s southwest has walked free from court with a suspended sentence.
Brisbane dad Timothy Alexander Robinson, 31, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Tuesday to attempted rape.
The court heard Robinson and a female acquaintance had been spending New Year’s Eve together drinking and talking at a park in Darra when he attempted to rape her on December 21, 2020.
At some point during the night, the 31-year-old removed his penis from his pants and requested oral sex.
The court heard he then put his arm around her and grabbed her breast, but she said no.
There was some consensual kissing after that, and then eventually, Robinson forced the woman to the ground and removed his clothes and her pants.
She attempted to get away repeatedly while that was happening, but Robinson used some force to hold her down.
The court heard he tried to insert his penis into her vagina, but she struggled against him, saying no.
At some point during the altercation, Robinson pushed her head to the ground, causing some minor injury to her eye.
The court heard he again requested oral sex before the woman took her belongings and left.
Robinson’s lawyer told the court at the time of the offence that his client had been struggling to come to grips with traumatic aspects of his childhood while dealing with the difficulties of raising his young son, who he used to have sole care of.
He said Robinson was currently completing a traineeship in human resources and business at QUT.
He was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for three years.
The 89 days he spent in pre-sentence custody was declared time served under the sentence.
