A convicted Logan drug trafficker busted walking down a footpath with a bag full of handguns and meth valued up to $65,000 armed himself after feeling like “the world was out to get him”, a court has heard.
Yarrabilba man Beau Jacob Fe’ao Veraa, 33, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday to multiple charges, including three counts of unlawful possession of weapons and one of possessing dangerous drugs.
The court heard police found Fe’ao Veraa’s car abandoned and substantially damaged along Wynnum Rd, Cannon Hill at 4.30pm on February 25 last year.
He was found later walking along the footpath, appearing to be under the influence of a substance.
The court heard Fe’ao Veraa was carrying a white bag with him that he threw to the ground before telling police they should arrest him.
Inside the bag, police located three loaded handguns, four clip seal bags of meth inside a sock, six vials of Trenbolone, $9,600 cash and a small knife.
He was arrested and placed in a police van, where he began headbutting and ramming the inside of the vehicle.
He was later found with another sock with a clip seal bag of meth and $290 cash in his clothing after undressing in the back of the van.
The court heard he was found with about 50 grams of methamphetamines in total, with an estimated value ranging from $21,000 to $65,000.
Fe’ao Veraa’s lawyer told the court his client had been using meth on the morning of the offence and effectively had a “psychotic episode”.
“He described feeling like he was being followed and that the world was out to get him,” he said.
“It was in that context that Mr Fe’ao Veraa came into possession of the firearms. Effectively he was in a state of some paranoia.”
He said Fe’ao Veraa had a troubled upbringing and was four years old when his mother was addicted to drugs, and that environment exposed him to crime generally at an early age.
He said his client’s mother has since been rehabilitated and was present in court to support him.
The court heard Fe’ao Veraa had a relevant criminal history and was sentenced for drug trafficking in 2017.
He was sentenced to four years imprisonment with a parole eligibility date on January 29, 2023.
The 217 days he spent in pre-sentence custody were declared time served.
