They are elite powerlifters off the rugby league field, and on the field the Baty twins were doing plenty of heavy lifting for Marsden SHS in the Titans Schools League.
Mackenzie and Rialey Baty play prop and centre respectively for their school’s crack Year 11-12 side.
While one played front row and the other in the backs, both were as equally mobile and strong as each other.

Rialey said there was a telepathic understanding between the twins.
“We always end up on the same side of the field,’’ Rialey said.
“One will start on the other side, but we will always end up on the same side somehow.’’
Mackenzie said if Rialey was interchanged off the field, she missed her: “I like playing with my sister. When I am out on the field without her, I find myself trying to look for her.’’
The twins first started rugby league at Waterford playing with the boys. “I think that experience of playing with the boys, getting that knowledge, we were able to play like boys in the girls competition,’’ Rialey said.
The twins also said they had benefited greatly from the coaching of Coby-Jane Morgan “who is a role model,’’ when she was coach last season.
Now they are under the guidance of representative coach and former NRL warhorse Jamie Feeney.
“He has helped all of us coming from an elite level,’’ Rialey said.
They are both outstanding weightlifters as well. Mackenzie is the state weightlifting champion in her weight and age group, while Rialey is a national bronze medallist in the sport.
Rialey said having a powerlifting background helped with strength and stability.
Certainly when the girls burst through contact situations they do seem to retain balance and momentum with relative ease.
“It also prevents injuries, I believe. We have not had an injury for two years,’’ said Rialey.
Mackenzie added: “It was a big help going from weightlifting to league.’’
