Unknown Emma Fryga proved a bolt from the blue as QGSSSA students shone brightly at the Queensland School Sport track and field championships over the weekend.

Fryga, a 13-year-old from Somerville House, won the 13 years 800m in

a tidy 2.14.21 seconds and backed it up with a brave silver medal effort against the national triathlon champion in the 1500m.

Fryga has been competing in Little Athletics since she was aged seven where she did a lot of shorter races until her coach, Brad Schofield, noted her natural ability for longer form events.
