Labrador Hockey is poised to become the first Gold Coast club with a women’s team competing in Queensland’s premier competition, the Brisbane Hockey League.
Tigerstix have been approved to enter a team in 2025, eight years on from the league’s initial vision in 2017 where a joint venture with South West United fell through on the eve of round 1.
Labrador Hockey Club President Andrew Proctor described this step forward as a culmination of countless years of work by many people to provide a pathway for women at the club.
Tigerstix entered a men’s team into the Brisbane Hockey League in 2007 which has since won top-grade premierships in 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2024.
