We reveal the best performers in a fabulous round which saw Mt Gravatt claimed a local derby win over Morningside, Surfers Paradise upset Sherwood and the Roos beat Wilston Grange in an early semi-final type clash.

The top five seems locked in, but the race for sixth is interesting between both Aspley and Surfers Paradise who had big wins yesterday to move to 28 competition points

Maroochydore - bye PBC, Mt Gravatt, Noosa.
Sherwood - Broadbeach, bye, PBC, Wilston Grange
Broadbeach - Sherwood, bye Morningside, Labrador
Wilston Grange - Redland, bye, Labrador, Sherwood
We predict Palm Beach Currumbin to win all three games and retain top position, and for the Roos to win two of the three and retain second place.
We think Broadbeach will edge out Sherwood for third place, leaving the Magpies and Wilston Grange fourth and third respectively.
Wilston Grange have now lost to PBC and the Roos, but the hard games will have them primed for what to expect in the finals.
After a bye next weekend, the road ahead for Aspley and Surfers will be:
Aspley play Labrador, Redland-Victoria Point, Surfers Paradise
Surfers play Morningside, Noosa, Aspley
We predict both will win round their round 19 and 20 games, then they play each other in the final fixture for the sixth and final position.
Morningside remains a chance, but more likely to stay outside the finals.
In the race to fill positions 8-12, it will come down to the round 21 clash between Morningside and Redland to see who finishes 8-9th.
We believe Mt Gravatt will win another match to remain 10th, with Noosa and Labrador at the tail.
The Players of the Weekend were:
PBC v Labrador
PBC’s mid fielder Cameron Brown, forward Samuel Longobardi and backman Zack Goodwin.
PBC coach Glen Clark said: “It was a flat game from our players with eight of the group missing due to playing up.’’
“But credit to Labrador for the right they showed for such a young team.’’
Jack Turner, Seb Stevens and Tom Ray (all Labrador)
The young Labrador side was well led by this trio who dominated around the footy. “They were so crafty with their decision making,’’ praised coach Rob Yoannidis. He said the boys were able to defuse the footy and bring their teammates into the game.
Surfers Paradise v Sherwood
Kane Gordan (Surfers) was brilliant in defence where he was calm and steady behind the ball.
Jordan Williams (Surfers) was an absolute workhorse in the midfield and big Ali Al-Nabhan “battled like a Trojan in the ruck’’, according to his coach Alistair Mitchell which gave Surfers first use of the ball.
Surfers Paradise coach Alistair Mitchell said: “I am really happy with our win against Sherwood and it took a full team effort, especially from our backline and midfield.’
“We definitely had to work hard for the win as Sherwood are a great team, so we had to play a high pressure attacking game which the boys did to the letter.
“As a coach I could not have asked more from the team and couldn’t be happier for them.’’
Owen Capling, Ryliegh Utting, Joel O’Brien Henry Spry, Joshua Campbell (Sherwood) all earned high praise from their coach Jaenke-Cain in the close loss, with Capling showing the way from centre half back, Utting as an inside and and both O’Brien and Spry as sweeping mids. Campbell was also an attacking forward.
Aspley v Noosa
Jakob Gordon (Aspley) played forward and gave Aspley a target with his pressure around the contest.
Jeremy Crook (Aspley) played wing and forward and kept his width on the wing and attacked when forward.
Campbell Harrop (Aspley) competed well in every contest playing mid and forward. “He set up around the contest and drove us forward on numerous occasions,’’ said Aspley coach Brett Atkins.
Jed Bullman, Jed Murphy and Diesel McCarthy (Noosa): Bullman played in the midfield, Jed Murphy tried all day in the ruck while McCarthy did his bit in the midfield and down forward,
Mt Gravatt v Morningside
Rafe Priestly (Mt Gravatt) played well coming back from a major injury. “He impacted the play every time he was near the ball,’’ said Mt Gravatt coach David Greenaway.
Darcy Augustine (Mt Gravatt) ran on the wing creating the overlap needed to enter the forward 50,
Luke Kirkman (Mt Gravatt) the versatile went down back and held his own against a bigger opponent.
Mt Gravatt coach David Greenaway said: “It was a great four quarter effort from the boys. We set up well and controlled the play for most of the game.
“Morningside were great in using their speed and run off the line.’’
Harry Taylor, Joe Wilson, Bryce Longland (Morningside): Wilson and Taylor were at it again in the midfield for Morningside, while Longland was a terrific target down forward.

“All talented midfielders who were dynamic around the stoppages and who provided us with a lot of forward opportunities,’’ said Sharks coach Brian Zutt.
Young forward Jack Jovanovic (Broadbeach) kicked six goals in his team’s win, but the rookie had plenty of helpers in Beau Addinsall, Max Hudson, Harry Gwynne, Cooper Hynes and Cooper Gwynne.
Broadbeach Lewis Chiodo said: It was a good win against an opposition that came to play. We are getting closer to a four quarter performance.
