He is the brother of Queensland cricket batting whirlwind Max Bryant, but Oskar Bryant is quickly assembling his own scrapbook of achievements as Palm Beach Currumbin SHS prepare for Thursday’s Phil Hall Cup schoolboy league grand final.

Interchange dummy half Bryant, with a sharp turn of pace, and his No. 9 partner Taine Ujdur-Berghan have been understated heroes of PBC’s march through the competition, but they have not been under rated by teammates.

Indeed their performances have very much triggered matchwinning halves Ryan Rivett and Tom Weaver into action.

PBC coach Brad Davis said without dummy halves halves making good decisions, the rest of the side falters.

“They have been a bit under valued in our previous performances,’’’ Davis praised.

“They both offer different things and it is a good tandem operation we have going there.’’

He was also impressed with his halves Weaver and Rivett who had been playing “mature footy’’.

“They are good at building pressure for 18 year old kids,’’ said Davis, himself an extremely gifted NRL and Q-Cup half.

“They sometimes get too excited, but they have controlled the footy well and on the back of that we have defended really physically and played well within our systems.’’

Davis said the halves pairing had played better the longer the season progressed.

“They are really skilful and have a good combination.

“The trick was to get them on the same page and work together and once they improved that cohesion, it has been really noticeable.’’
