GIRL POWER REIGNS IN TITANS SCHOOLS LEAGUE
Keebra Park SHS head of rugby league Glen Campbell said the Titans Schools League was giving players a chance to push for higher honours at their respective schools.
These included Keebra Park Div 1 players Zin Zan Kahu, the cousin of former New Zealand and Brisbane Broncos player Jordan Kahu, and hooker Jack Hudson.
“They (all his players) are trying to fight their way into my top side,’’ Campbell said.
He said the Titans Schools League was a great chance for more students to play the game and improve.
“It gives kids who coming through, say a 16-year-old who is in year 11, a chance to play against 18-year-olds.
Excitment was brewing at Chisholm Catholic College ahead of tomorrow’s livestream debut on the News Corp livestream platform.
Chisholm’s season is being led by captain Chris Bell who coach Tom Philpott described as being “part of a quality spine’’ made up of Bell, Andre Kelly, Leo Gallagher and Luke Dougherty.
Albert Jamroz and Jackson Brown have also been setting up strong platform in the front-row.
Chisholm had success in the Titans Schools League, winning the Open Div 2 Titans’ Shield in 2019.
“We have three teams competing this year in the opens, Year 9-10 and Year 7-8, all in division 2,’’ Philpott said.
“There are many benefits to participating in the Titan’s Cup and it is absolutely our biggest competition of the year for the Year 7-10 teams and only second to Confro (Confraternity Shield) for the open boys,’’ Philpott said.
“It is an amazing competition where smaller rugby league schools like ours can come up against some of the biggest league schools in the country, such as, Keebra Park and Marsden SHS.’’
Philpotts said for the open boys, the competition was an ideal lead up to Confraternity Carnival, which is played between catholic colleges around the state.
But for now the focus is very much on success in the Titans Schools League.
“We are here to be as competitive as possible and are hoping to bounce back from two losses in the opens next round,’’ he said.
The college’s year 9-10 side will enter its third round encounter with two wins.
