Brisbane State High School’s coaching staff have plotted an attacking path forward when the GPS season returns with trial matches this weekend.
The relatively youthful BSHS First XV have been evolving variations in attack which the side aims to use in 2020.
“At State High, we aim to play attacking rugby that allows players the option to attack from anywhere on the field,’’ said BSHS Head of Year Matthew Thornton.

“Our expectations are always high but with a shorter pre-season and also a young squad this year we would just like to play some attacking football, and for all players to have an enjoyable rugby experience.’’
But against the backdrop of any conversations around attacking rugby must be a discussion about defence because while try-scoring shootouts are spectator affairs, they rarely deliver the silverware.
“We have worked hard on our defence throughout the pre-season with our seniors this year so we are looking to improve in that area,’’ Thornton said.
BSHS will be led by its leadership group of Ben Bartlet, Ezra Howe, Vincent Sefo and Josh Mongard.
“While we have some players that gained some first XV experience last year, we are a relatively young group both in age and experience,’’ Thornton said.
“We are very excited to see how the team progresses and what we achievement this year ‘’
Howe, Sefo, Mongard and Antioch Faitala-Mariner were nominated as players of particular promise., Josh Mongard, Ezra Howe, Vincent Sefo.
