Brisbane Boys College captain and all-rounder Samuel Bell scored 46 and claimed five wickets – yet finished in a losing side.
In another remarkable match in what is turning out to be a remarkable season due to the closeness of the teams, BBC were in a winning position, then completely out of the contest, and then in the box seat again before Nudgee College junior Matt Fielding swiped four remarkable shots to elevate his side to victory.

Bell scored 46 from 51 balls to help hoist BBC to 230, then took five wickets as Nudgee won with an over to spare. Bell dismissed Nudgee’s batting rock Kane Neilsen, then took four in quick succession as Nudgee went from 1-203 to losing 6-7.
1. Kane Nielsen (Nudgee)
Nielsen continued a golden summer with 89, almost anchoring Nudgee to victory over BBC. He batted for 168 minutes during a 132 ball innings, overseeing Nudgee’s first 204 runs chasing 230.
2. Dan Seaton (Nudgee)
Seaton was back to opening and produced his highest score of the summer. At one stage stricken by cramps, Seaton scored 85 and together with Nielsen laid a platform for Nudgee.
3. Tom Campbell (Terrace)
Tom is in our side – again. He is a class act who can adjust no matter what the circumstances. On Saturday he spent a considered 174 minutes at the crease constructing 91 not out. But he was quick to swoop on anything loose, lofting two sixes while also hitting six fours.
4. Angus Tolhurst (BGS)
With runs and wickets, Tolhurst was one of the first into our Team of the Week. He scored 44 (43 balls) – second highest of the match – and immediately put Ipswich Grammar School under pressure in their innings with his left arm orthodox spin (10-3-12-2).
5. Blake Raymond (TSS)
Raymond added the finishing touches to TSS’s epic 6-268 against Churchie. Also a First XV rugby player, he faced just 31 balls in scoring 62 not out, taking the match well beyond the reach of Churchie. His innings included five sixes.
6. Matt Fielding (Nudgee)
How can you score 17 not out and be in the team of the week? Easily. If Fielding had not produced his 14 ball, 17 not out, Nudgee would not have beaten BBC. It is as simple as that.
7. Sam Bell (BBC)
As stated earlier in the article, Bell was again outstanding for BBC, challenging Nudgee’s bowlers when he scored 46 (51 balls), and then their batsmen when he claimed five wickets that almost engineered victory.
8. Hamish McDonald (Churchie)
McDonald’s outstanding season continued with astute leg-spin bowling to open the innings, and then a half century which gave Churchie a rough hope of the impossible. McDonald’s bowling yielded 10-1-26-0 and his batting 57 from 82 balls, fighting hard with Joshua Welsh (38) to get the Churchie innings going.
9. Zac McDermott (TSS)
The TSS medium fast spearhead was an automatic inclusion for his double against Churchie. When batting he scored a considered 39, ensuring TSS had a platform for later in the innings. Then with the new ball he produced as an opening burst of 5-2-12-1, and finishing with 1-22 from seven overs.

10. Lachlan Biggs (BBC)
Lachlan Biggs was a part of BBC’s batting avalanche, with his 22 from 24 balls supporting skipper Sam Bell in accelerating the innings which gave Nudgee the toughest of run chases.
11. Michael Harper (Terrace)
This time he is in. Finally. We are almost apologetic to young Harper that he has missed previous Teams of the Week after a succession of near misses at the selection table. But nothing was going to stop leg-spinner Harper from his richly deserved place on this occasion. He captured the key wicket of BSHS Dylan Crees who, if he had batted for another hour, probably would have meant BSHS win – and not lost narrowly. The UQ player produced the bowling figures of the round – 10-4-21-3 – and has been outstanding all season.
12. Samuel Loch (Terrace)
In a match which went down to the wire, Loch’s contribution was extraordinary. The left arm spinner bowled 10-2-10-1 in a special performance which built pressure on BSHS. In a match won by Terrace by just 15 runs, Loch’s performance was key.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Daniel Skipwith (BSHS)
Skipwith almost stole the match for BSHS with his 52 in 80 minutes. He came in during a crisis when BSHS had slumped to 6-89, but it was a case of onward and upward as he carried his side to 7-180 – within sight of the victory target.
Callum Vidler (BGS)
Arguably the competition’s fastest bowler, Vidler came in and burst through the IGS batting after Tolhurst, his skipper Weibgen and Will Sheedy had pinned their opponents early. Vilder claimed 4-15 bowling fast.
Jackson Evetts (IGS)
Hats off to Jackson Evetts who claimed 4-29 from his eight overs – then top scored with 10 not out in the IGS innings.
Dylan Crees (BSHS)
Brisbane State High School had two near match winners on Saturday – Daniel Skipwith and Crees. Crees fired BSHS out of the gun chasing 203 with a spritely 45 from 48 balls before that man Harper snared his wicket – caught by John Joyce. Crees also challenged BGS with an exciting 40 earlier in the season and is having an excellent season in a side threatening to win.

Harry Dutton (Terrace)
What would have happened if Dutton had not held the caught and bowled chance offered by BSHS batsman Daniel Skipwith? Terrace may not have won. Dutton was under pressure as BSHS went hard at him late in the innings, but he picked up two wickets from his 2.3 overs – after scoring 30 from 40 balls to help get Terrace beyond 200.
Noah East (BBC)
East produced an old fashioned openers knock in constructing 42 over 110 minutes against Nudgee College at Oakman Park, helping lay a foundation for BBC’s quicksilver effort which was to follow.
Jacob Bath (TSS)
TSS opener Bath (58, 87 balls) did the hard yards early alongside Zac McDermott (39) while facing the new ball.
Justin Faber (TSS)
It was Faber who pressed the go button on the TSS innings after McDermott and Bath had positioned their side nicely. His 52 came from just 60 balls and featured more sixes than fours.
